I would step up to 243 bolt for yotes. "My" belief is that you would have a better chance at clean one shot kills. But, that's just my thoughts. I don't like to see pain and suffering. I know the 223 works for some guys, but me personally, would not use it for yotes.
a 55g pill from a .223 will kill any yote on the spot at 400 yards or less with a boiler room shot. Might be less margin for error with a .223 over a .243, but to say they aren't good for yotes is crazy. I've shot a dozen or so yotes with my .223 and maybe two have run 40-75 yards before piling up? and the shot was a bit far back. Never lost one yet KNOCK ON WOOD.
in fact i've had more runners with my .22-250 than .223. Not sure why, it will punch a hole the size of my fist with 55g v-max but had a couple run into the bush before expiring.
.243 can be harder on pelts too, .223 leaves nice little holes.
