.223 powder?

26.5 grains of IMR 4198 works very well pushing 53 grain Sierra match in my Axis. Four shots in one hole at 100 yards, (fifth one off because I pulled it). My Axis doesn't like the 53 grain V-Max. Groups were similar to the OP's, often bigger.

24 gr. of Benchmark, Winchester small rifle primers, Federal Gold Medal cases, Sierra 52 gr. Match Kings in my AR-15 with 24" SS bull barrel (1:10 twist) = 5 shot .28 inch group. Can't argue with Benchmark.

AWOL that is a perfect sight.

Just finished the batch. It took a long time because I trimmed, chamfered, pocket uniformed & flash hole deburred the brass. That takes a while even with power tools. .223 Rem is tough to load. I far prefer loading .270 or .308...

I will fire these tomorrow at the range.

These are:

Brass trimmed to 1.75"
CCI Bench Rest primer
55gr V-Max
25.5gr Varget
OAL 2.260"

Varget, BL-C(2), IMR4895, H335, IMR4198 ive used all of them for 50 to 60gr bullets, prefer Varget with Barnes MPG 55gr bullets for long range.

The load I use in my Savages LRPV 1 in 9 twist & BVSS 1 in 9'' twist
Hornady 53 gr V-max
CCI 400
Winchester Brass
24 gr RAMSHOT EXTERNINATOR
AOL 2.370'' (Jammed to lands -will not fit mag single shot only)
will consistantly shoot in 1's & 2's @ 100 yds
Velocity 2240 fps
