.223 recommendations please

I want to add a .223 to the safe, and would like input on the best bang for the buck given the following requirements:
Bolt action
Accuracy. Would like to be able to place shots at up to 600m.
Reliability.
Under $600 (rifle only).
Under $1000 (rifle only).
Although I like the spec of the Savage axis for the money, it doesn't have the Accutriger (I have one in .22 Savage and want something as good or better for the .223).
Primary purpose is perforating paper (not competitive). Will not be used for hunting.
Can be synthetic, wood, or Black rifle.
 
Tikka get one with a 1-8 twist the Varmint comes in 1-8 or 1-12 best bang for the buck. Adjustable trigger, there are getting to be more aftermarket goodies.
 
One of the Savage models with the Accutrigger. Or a Stevens 200 and buy an aftermarket trigger. A Weatherby Vanguard. A Remington 700 SPS. A Mossberg MVP.
 
Ditch the accutrigger. Worst trigger I have ever used. I can make it malfunction 100% of the time. Get a rifle and put a good aftermarket trigger in it. I have a timney in my axis and it is miles ahead of that accucrap.
 
I can make the Accu-Trigger work perfectly 100% of the time...

Consider the Mossberg MVP Predator or Varmint...
 
Thanks for the input so far. I didn't know about the Moss' MVP. Have now watched a couple of video reviews - looking good.

Recommendations for the best scope under$300?
All the staff at one of our local sporting store use Vortex for their own guns, citing quality for the price and outstanding after-sales and warranty. Is this the general consensus?
 
Theres a heavy barrel .223 Rem 700 in the EE right now in an HS precision stock for 799$.
I'd offer 750$ shipped. A good set-up for range work in a quality stock.

Depends on the magnification you want Redfield 4-14 is 310 at cabelas They are made in the US by Leopold I think maybe some one can confirm that.
 
Depends how long you want to wait and if you will consider a used firearm or not. I found a nice sako heavy weight (L461 Vixen Varment) for $600. It is a .222 and I believe it could easily be reamed out to .223 rem or .222 mag, correct me if I'm wrong people. The gun is an excellent target gun.

And here it is again on the top. The middle is an AI .222 that I paid $1000 for with the scope and rings, and the bottom is an AII in 22-250 that I picked up for $500 without the scope.

Also, my friend has an older Remington 722 in .222 rem of course, that is capable of shooting through the eye of a needle. They are usually fairly priced and could also be reamed out. There are a lot more options if you are considering buying used.

I like the accutrigger, never had an issue with it and I shoot frequently and left handed......lol

Research the models and go handle/shoulder all the 1st cut choices and see which has the least plastic trigger guards and mags etc. and fits you best.
Just remember if it seems to point and align perfectly, you still have to mount a scope which tends to raise your cheek weld so take that into account.

For more efficient results @ 600 yds consider a faster twist so that heavier, higher BC bullets can be used and maybe even a heavier barrel for a heat sink.

To malfunction the accutrigger all you do is push the side of it lightly and it decocts the rifle. Can I make it work yes but its a trigger it should work 100% of the time without failure. I have noticed that if you put the guns on safe and bump the trigger sideways when you take it off safe it will actually fire. Anyway good luck with whatever you pick.
 
If you want a nice rifle for under $1000 get something from the used section maybe in EE like an 15 year old (or older) Sako. That'd be you best value.

If you want a show of hands... go to the EE and search for sako... you will find more WTB than WTS. That tells the whole story. More guys want to buy them than sell them.
 
Tikka T3 Varmint, you will not be disappointed.

If you do not want the heavy barrel, then go with a Tikka T3 Hunter, or a Browning X-Bolt.

Redfield's Revolution scopes are made in the U.S.A. at a Redfield/Leupold factory. I think the newer Revenge line is assembled outside the U.S.A.
