224 valkyrie who's got them ?

I still dont get why people have to get off topic....

who sells the ammo and rifles ?

Nobody's off topic.

You've got a couple of leads on ammo already. Post #3, Post #9. IRG is another source now that they have their ammo selection available to us again.

The type of rifle that you're looking for is thus far nonexistent here in a factory built rifle. Because of this people are suggesting options that will get you the results you are looking for.

Nobody's going to provide you with what they don't have.

My apologies if it's not what you want to hear.

I bought a couple of Savage MSR 15 Valkyrie's along with a few cases of Federal AE 75gr ammo through Reliable Gun.
If you want to try a 1:6.5 twist barrel, IBI is now selling those(I put their prototype barrel on one of my Savages).

Typical of most new cartridges, the 224 Valkyrie is on the hot side... That said... I think the 224 Valkyrie is just begging for a 6MM bullet wildcat... better yet as a production version. It would be more efficient all the way around.

I get it how the 224 Valkyrie is really intended to fit in an AR length mag and action, but for a bolt action I can hit just about the same speed with a long throated 223 with 80 grainers seated to an OAL of 2.6" (too long for an AR)

I am ordering a 1 in 6.5 barrel from IBI for my Modern Sporter.
Who has the best brass available in Canada?
Dies in Canada?
I'm starting with the 77 grain TMKs that I have but will probably get into some heavies later. I'll have to read some more as I dont know the heaviest I can go and still make magazine length. Anyone know the heaviest projectile that works in AR mags? Or can you basically use anything since the cartridge is shorter and designed for heavies?

What barrel length and gas system are you planning to use? I don't think the cartridge is optimized with 77g. If that's what you want to run just stick with 223. The benefit is you can stuff 80g + in at mag length. You need either 6.8 or *39 mags.

Going with the 19" length barrel, rifle length gas with adjustable gas block. I am starting with the 77 grain as it is what I have and will still see a good improvement over the 223. I will however try some heavier projectiles once I decide based on BC and availability. But yes the cartridge is designed for heavier projectiles.
Brownells has 5 round 6.8 mags for cheap.
*Edit...they had cheap mags, backordered now.

Federal just announced 3 new loadings for the 224 Valkyrie.

The 80.5gr Gold Medal Berger Hybrid has me interested. I think they really pushed their luck with the 90gr and it didn't work out as planned. I know I haven't been extremely impressed. I think the 80gr is a step in the right direction.

Not too sure why they came out with the 60gr V-Max when they already have the 60gr Nosler Ballistic Tip

The 60gr NBT has shot extremely well for me. I don't know what the point of having 2 different 60gr varmint rounds would be.

Anyways, it's good to see more ammo options becoming available for the Valkyrie.

Because Hornady makes the VMax, the Ballistic Tip is from Nosler. It’d be like you asking why Ford makes pickups because Dodge already does.

The point was why would one company (Federal) decide to make two 60gr varmint loads. What would the Hornady bullet accomplish compared to the Nosler bullet? The addition of the V-Max to the lineup when they already use the Nosler BT seems kind of redundant no?

Also having two varmint loads that are basically identical when the Valkyrie's main purpose/advantage is longer range shooting kind of doubles the redundancy no?

Am I missing something magical about the V-Max in comparison to the NBT? No. They serve the exact same purpose, hence my questioning why would Federal decide to offer two loadings that are essentially the same?

Ford makes Fords and Dodge makes Dodges. Neither company makes both, for good reason.

Brand preference would be my guess. Offering customers more than one choice is always a good thing when perhaps one bullet performs better in someone’s rifle than the other one?

Your groups are better than I was able to produce with the same ammo and similar setup(IBI barrel on a Savage MSR) on my one range outing. When I get some playtime I'll have to revisit my build and see if I can tighten things up...
