22lr ammo wth ?????

.22LR? Really?

I wandered through the Winnipeg Cabela's earlier today and there was something like 50,000 rounds of .22LR in immediate sight, just standing at the gun counter (and untold thousands on shelves and piles elsewhere). Multiple brands, little packs, bricks, multi-brick combos, 2100 round ammo cans ($95), you name it.

Yup, plenty there.
Just stopped by there tonight and left with a few boxes of CCI Quiet, a box of .22 short, and some bulk CCI mini-mags.
Lots of other stuff on the shelf too....no worries here.

"Out West?"

Hardly. Here in Edmonton, the local Cabela's has some 5 million rounds sitting out in plain sight.

Federal ammo cans with 2100 rounds in it, Federal 525s, CCI Mini mags in bulk, wildcats, 333/555s, bushmans, M22s, etc etc.

That's just the bulk stuff. There's pallets of it.

Then, in non-bulk we have CCI Mini mag trays, CCI Standard velocity, CCI Green Tag, CCI Sub sonic, CCI segmented hollow point, CCI Quiet, CCI Quiet Segmented, Federal 40gr, Federal 38gr, federal 36gr, federal 31gr, AE 40gr solid, AE38gr JHP, CCI Stingers, Federal Target, Federal Match, and a bunch of others.

You would have to literally be worth 1 million dollars to even try to purchase half their stock of 22lr...

All of the local shops here such as Cdn Tire and Walmart and whatever have tons of stock, too.

I was speaking for my area particularly, its pretty pathetic out here on the island not nearly the selection I keep hearing about in other places; canadian tire and walmart are usually sold out of most things.

Funny how other canadian tires and whatnot seem to have no issues with getting a wide variety of stock, some back east are even selling milsurps now.

Local shop in town here is expecting some blazer in a week or two. Not far from you. Probably just the western distributors having a tough time getting it.

Yeah, the cupboard's been bare on the southern Island for quite a while. If you can manage the up front outlay I suggest buying by the case (5,000 rnds) online. Almost anything you want is available from one or another of the online dealers. Shipping is usually about $40, but after the HST is gone in April the tax saving will be approximately that much provided you buy out-of-province. Also, case lots are often cheaper than buying by the brick and if you don't want that much ammo you can usually find another shooter who will split the order.

BUy all you can when you see it, supply is drying up, what you see in the stores is what is available in canada, suppliers have little to none, and expect none to little for the time being, not a joke not an alarmist, its just what the suppliers are saying

And this is why I have bought LOTS of ammo over the last little while!!!

Cheers
Jay

Folks, its drying up fast. You can find it in a few pockets still, but the main supply is drying up, wholesalers are OUT and not sure when they will resupply

The real question is: What will be the new "normal" price when the smoke clears from the latest buying frenzy/shortage? Most seem to have forgotten the normal walmart price for the bulk boxes was $16.99 jst a few short years ago.

LeBaron here in Ottawa has 500rd bricks of Wildcats for $16.72...got a couple bricks today. Its not the best ammo I know, but it runs fine through my old Cooey....and you just can't beat the price for plinking

Interesting...Winchester Wildcat is a favourite of mine for the last 20+ years....In all that time, I can count on one hand the number of duds...Always found it to be very accurate...CCI Blazer is also very good for me....And both are quite inexpensive....

I always buy it when I can.....

Stopped by LeBarons in Markham today. They got resupplied with 22LR recently. Tons of Remington and Winchester stuff. They also have their surplus 7.62 back in stop albeit at a raised price. 239 for 1320 Romanian surplus.

I'm not saying its bad ammo...not at all, but my pistol chokes on it from time to time and tends to run better with CCI or Remington

As much as I would like to feed into the panic everywhere I've been around the lower mainland has stock. I picked up some blazer, federal and stingers this weekend.

What prices did you pay for them? I'm seeing the stock that is available now is ~$25-30/brick which is almost double from even January prices. CanadaAmmo does have some Federal listed now @$22.99/brick. Their AE and Blazers are listed at $29.99/brick though.

I paid 24-29/brick (except the stingers were 65) which seems to be the going rate these days from what I've seen. I guess this just proves the old saying buy it cheap and stack it deep. I'm wishing I had stacked it deeper in January.
