22LR handguns? opinions?

I've got 3 different Rugers autoloaders with 3 different barrels. I also have a Colt huntsman. They all shoot. I also have a single six that doesn't shoot worth a crap, except with the Magnum cylinder.

Have owned at one time or another a Browning Buckmark Silhouette, Ruger Mk II Target, Ruger Mk III Hunter, Smith Model 41, Smith Model 17, Ruger Single Six, and CZ 85C/Kadet kit. Currently have the S&W 17, Single Six, and CZ 85C/Kadet. Ruger pistols shoot great and are a great value, but just didn't do anything for me. The 17 is a classic and I'm keeping it just because. The Single Six stainless usually has the .22Mag cylinder in it and is my gun of choice if I have to go crawling around one of my barns to shoot a racoon or other pest.....and it's deadly accurate. The most surprising one has been the Kadet. I bought the 85C off the EE and it came with the Kadet kit. Figured I'd have some fun plinking with it and then sell it off. But it has become the most enjoyable .22 pistol I've owned and pretty much comes to the range with me every outing. The S&W 41 is another classic, and every one I've ever shot has been accurate as hell. Just don't do enough serious target shooting to keep one around, but if you want a target .22 then you can't go wrong with a 41.

i might want to stay away from the sig mosquito(sp?).
i know 2 guys @ the range and they are total jamomatics.
they have tried all kinds of fixes.1 took it back where he bought it
and told them to take it from his sight.
i've got a norinco m93 sportsman.it works well and is very inexpensive to buy.
i tried the walther 22 and boy is that thing small, and i've got small hands...

One great advantage that hasn't been mentioned in favour of the Ruger and Buckmark pistols. The Ultimate Cliploader works for them.

Dump a pack of 50 cartridges into the loader, and 15 seconds later, 5 mags fully loaded.

See www.canadaammo.com, site sponsor above.

I have a Ruger 22/45. This is definately the most reliable & accurate .22 handgun I have ever used. After about 2000 rds, I have never had a misfire. It shoots any .22 lr ammo available.

You may want to consider an H&R Sportsman (model 999).

These are double action with a 9 shot cylinder & have an automatic ejector, when opening/breaking open the gun. Front & rear sights are ajustable & are fun shooters. A good used one will run between $125.-200. I love mine!

They also came with a 4" barrel, & manual extractor.....

I've had a Ruger Mk III 22/45 for almost a year now and I love it. Recently I did a mod to remove the magazine disconect and I like it even more now. The mod was relatively easy, and only cost about $.25 in washers from Canadian Tire.

It also works for RUGER® MARK II, III, & HUNTER, 22/45, COLT WOODSMEN MAG., Old Military High Standard, Newer High Standard, Stoeger Luger 22 cal, S&W 22A, Beretta Neos. The screw on the loading end lets you adjust it perfectly for the different .22s

I haven't seen any mention of the S&W 22A. True target pistol. Anyway that's what I bought. I'm still waiting for my LT-ATT so I can take it to the range tho so I can't tell you what it's like to fire. Looks nice tho, IMHO.

I'm considering a Ruger 22/45, could you explain the above in more detail please?

I'm really appreciating my new-to-me Browning Challenger I.

To use the cliche, it's certainly more accurate than I am and has been a lot of fun so far.

i settled on a S&W Model 22A simply cuz i hate how the Ruger and Buckmark stuff feels in my hand, the S&W 41 is way too expensive for just a plinker, and the controls on High Standard pistols irritate the living crap out of me.

One of the cheapest and nicest 22 semi auto's that I have used lately is the S&W 22A model. I own one and have owned another and they work great with any ammo. They have to be one of the best buys around anywhere for a 22 auto. It sure beats the heck out my Sig Mosquito for reliablity.
