.22LR Pistols for Target -- Favourite?

I enjoy my Ruger Mark III Target, though it's heavy and really like my Ruger 22/45 Lite...so much I'm thinking about getting a target model.

they shoot more accurately than I can :p

IF you are truly into precision/bullseye NRA or ISSF then you will be looking at European pistols. Walther GSP, or the current favourite the Pardini SP/SPE. Match Guns, or Morini are also top line. Or look for used Hammerli, FAS, Unique, Tesro, etc. All will be substantially better than anything American made in terms of trigger adjustability, ergonomics, recoil control, sights, etc.

Glenn, knowing you a little , I can tell you that you are a good candidate for the Smith and Wesson 41. Mine is VERY accurate and a pure joy to shoot.

Over the years I had a Colt Woodsman Match Target, a Vostok, A High Standard Supermatic Citation, and a Browning Medalist. I've also used the S&W Model 41 and the Ruger pistol.

I still have the Colt, but it's too nice to use much; and I still have the High Standard, which I use the most. The rest I sold off. All were accurate guns, but I just didn't like them, and I found the Colt and the High Standard to be the most accurate for me.

I've used a couple of the European guns, but no enough to form a good opinion. The only exception was the Walther Free Pistol, which is wicked accurate, but we seem to be talking about semi autos in this thread.

Im just waiting for my Drulov 70 free pistol to arrive in the mail.. ill let you know how it shoots. probably better then the Ruger 22/45 lite i had.

There are the north american crew of the Smith 41, High Standard Victor or Supermatic Trophy, Colt Match Target. Outside of that, you're heading the european competition direction. In terms of accuracy the High Standards and the Smith likely have a slight edge over the Colt but there's something about the first time you hold a Match Target and it hugs your hand back that is pretty special too. Lots of great choices.

this, for actual target work
outside of this you're just putting holes in paper and relying on finicky ammo (don't start with Eley/RWS etc. 22LR is finicky at all levels)

I'd like very much to have a S&W 41. They get nods just about everywhere. For now, however, I have to settle on pistols that are less hard on the wallet. I recently got a 1968 Hamden-made High Standard Citation 106, which has a very nice trigger, and a Belgian Browning Challenger from 1968 and which also has a nice trigger. I haven't shot either very much yet, but so far I like them both a great deal.
