22LR Rifle Choice

Im talking about less machining marks, and blueing that doesnt look likes it was put on with a paint brush. If it was blued properly the rifle should rust on its own while using it or even shortly after getting home from the range.

I take it you meant to type 'the rifle should not rust'.

You clearly have never seen a Savage MKII BVSS up close. The finish is very nice. There's no comparison between any $200 rifle and the Savage MKII BVSS. None at all; finish or performance. Its one rifle where the extra expense pays off in a big way.

And btw, I've got many hundreds of rounds (thousands really) down mine and there's no sign of any rust. When you buy a nicer rifle, you get a nicer rifle. When you buy crap, you get crap.

Yes that is what I meant.
Doesnt matter what stock you put on it they are all the same action. They dont make the laminated ones more special. I have looked at a few of the "high end" mkii and 93's. They all look and feel the same to me. If you like em good I'm happy for you. But for the $480 they want for them there are nicer rifles that are only $20-50 or so more money.

Get a Savage Mk. IIf or FSS, put a scope on it. That should cost you about $400.00 all in with taxes. Very accurate rifles, smooth bolts, great triggers, and they're made in Canada.

Whatever you do, do not listen to the fudds who tell you to get a Marlin 70 or CZ. The mag tube lever gun will drive you bananas, and the trigger on the CZ is terrible. The gun is also $550.00

You know in Europe, CZ rifles are generally thought of as cheap crap, similar to how Norinco is treated here

Good thing we arnt in Europe then. Compared to the "cheap crap" we are fed they are a step above. Yes I am a cz fan and have yet to have one with a bad trigger. I am also a fan of coopers but they are just so spendy lol.

I may have missed a post but it seems like the the Browning bl22 didn`t get mentioned at all. What`s up with that? I just bought a bl22 and now I`m worried that I might have bought an unpopular gun.

How arnt they? They make a boatload of mkII then put different stocks on them. That is like saying the f150's made in Michigan are made different then the ones in Kentucky. Any company isnt going to make a "special" run for a certain model just to put a different stock on it. They are all made then stocked done. Its the same with savage barrels. They are all in a crate and when they need one they grab one no matter if it is for an axis or a model 16

k guys well I bought a rifle today. LOL little more out of impatience and availability :)
I wanted a 22 for the weekend and the MkII wasn't available locally so I went with the Savage Model 64. Nice looking rifle and looks like fun. Think I will still get the MKII eventually.
My other two purchases this week (licence was still wet when I got these) and they don't really fit this forum but thought I would share - Remington 700 VTR .223 and Winchester 94 30-30 pre64.
Thanks for everyone's posts.

I adore my 64!

Have owned a few, and still have my first (my first .22 of all) Cooey 64. Got it about 26 years ago, and it was an old rifle then.

These are under-rated .22's, and can be finicky eaters with ammo (pick round nosed stuff). The need to be clean (every 500-1000 rds), and mine run best when dry. I lube only for rust prevention/storage.

Careful...acquire-itis is a powerful affliction!
