22lr rifle overall length (vz61 22lr)

I'll keep everyone posted it'll take some time to make but I have a few ideas in mind, also that was my under standing as well non telescoping non folding that reduce the length under 660mm is restricted, and having a fixed stock it can be under 26" example mares leg as long as it's a fixed stock. I'll make 2 versions one that will push it past the 660mm (26") requirement and one that is less then and see what one gets approval. Also there is a frt entry with short barrel and non restricted status 145651 - 17.

I am doing this on the forum so that we can brain storm some ideas and that there will be a guild fo future use.

I'll update
No need to go to the trouble and expense.

Just take a cheap beat up 22 Savage 64F semi auto and chop the stock so OAL is less than 26", send it in to rcmp lab, see if it's legal.

Well as it sits it is at 21 inches pretty comfortably better then the wire stock. Using vz 58 stock, designed an adapter I could add 5 more inches to the adapter to make it hit the 26 inch mark but it would probely looks super silly. Might just leave it as restricted with this set up see how it shoots at the range.

I believe muzzle devices can be used for over all length, they can't be used to make the barrel measurement longer, but for over all length threading and putting a muzzle device on could get you there.... worst case maybe you have to attach it permanently.

A shroud on that unit would look pretty good. Stock looks great!

Thank you, a fake suppressor from true north arms is 7 inch long would just need to get the barrel threaded. Would lock tight be considered permanent or would it need to have a pin or weld on it to count towards over all length?

I don't think it's well spelled out in the act and is open to "interpretation"..... try contacting Dlask and ask their opinon as they have been up against different interpretations by CFC in the past.

I might be wrong, show me if I am. I believe the law is that once restricted always restricted.
Shortening a gun below allowable do-it-your-self minimums does not make a gun restricted, it makes it a prohib.
I can see the reason; to avoid paperwork, registering, de-registering.
Prohib handguns can have barrels installed that take them to restricted, but the cost and time involved has discouraged most from doing so.
