I love the look of the Sig Mosquito Sport. What is it like? Is it reliable? Does it shoot well? What else is out there in .22LR for $600 or less that has the mean look of the Sig? It's just for plinking- nothing competitive.

Some people love it and some hate it. I agree that the mosquito looks cool but please do a google search its problems. For $600 and less, there are many good choice.

Good luck

The Mosquito is made for SIG. I had one, while it proved to be reliable and accurate, the thing I disliked about it was that the frame is made of plastic, not GLOCK plastic, cheap plastic. Trigger is also plastic. It's much smaller than a real SIG and felt like a toy in my hands. Some like it, I didn't; YMMV.

IMO, for that price, there are better options.

Get a Sig P226 Classic .22lr instead. It is a full size pistol frame which allows you to convert it up to 9mm, 40s&w, or 357 sig when you ready. Some of the site sponsers have them in stock like Ellwood Epps, Crafm, Wolverine, maybe Badger Arms. Questar sells them for $609 but the have to order it so it could be 4-6 weeks before they actually receive it. Check out the Sig Sauer website on these. Here is a very informative video on it:

Another option is the ever popular GSG 1911.

22 semi auto pistol

I have a stainless Ruger Mark 2 . it's really accurate and you can get all kinds of parts for it if you ever need them . I'm happy with the trigger just the way it came from the factory.

If anyone has been happy with his/her Mosquito they should consider themselves extremely fortunate and should start buying lottery tickets pronto. They look nice, sometimes they work, with CCI stingers they are more or less somewhat reliable, they crack their slides and are as accurate as throwing rocks. Two passed through my hands and I am glad they are out of my safes but they do make quite a conversation piece if they are deactivated and used as paperweights. Other than that, they's re great :-(

A huge reason for wanting to stick with the .22LR is the super-cheap ammo. I buy the bulk winchester stuff from walmart- 500 rounds for $16. What .22 semi-auto pistols will shoot this stuff every time without problems?

If you want a reliable 22 that still looks like a gun and not something from outer space buy a gsg 1911. If you are cool with the space type guns a Ruger is hard to beat.

+1 on this. The GSG's are a realistic looking .22 pistol and they have been getting great range reports. Also for 350ish you can't beat the price.

Revolvers, of course, will shoot anything that has a working primer but if one wants a semi auto, one has to be selective. I have a Ham. Xesse and I love it. Cheap ammo, expensive ammo, it works every time and it's accurate for even semi-formal competition, as long as the ammo is accurate. An ancient Cold Woodsman Match Target, ditto. The Ruger and the Browning Buckmark also. This from my experience and I'm sure there are others. My Sig P226 with the .22 lr upper conversion works 100% with all ammo tried, Federal bulk, all kinds of Remington and the cheap Winchester. The Mosquito is simply a cheaply made piece of crap that Sig should have never put their name on, so I'll say it's certainly the black sheep of the family as semi-auto's go for rimfires.

You sure it's still only $16 for 500? I sure have not seen ANY .22 for less than $20 for 500. There's the bulk 333 but that's 333 rounds per box so the price works out to be well over $20 for 500 once you do the math.

For reliability and general acceptance of almost any ammo the Ruger is hard to beat. But I just don't like the Luger like grip angle. The .22/45 corrects that but the grip on that one is thin and the balance is all off for my tastes due to the plastic lower frame. If I were buying a .22 that corrects all these issues I'd go for the Browning Buckmark. A nice gun with a proven record and it's not over the top for cost if you stick with the cheaper versions.

The GSG is sure getting great reports. But it's so new that it's hard to say how it'll age and if it'll prove to be as dependable for the long term as the Ruger, Buckmark or others of that sort.

Personally I'd get a S&W 22A before I'd buy a Mosquito. But then if you buy anything and take the time to tune the recoil spring to a given ammo then it'll work reliably for that ammo and others like it.

For those knocking the Mosquito, I owned one for about 6 months and it was as reliable as my old Ruger!

The key is using the right ammo, which was also important with the Ruger. And no I didn't have to pay out the ass for CCI Minimags. Blazer worked excellent and is what I use in my 10/22 anyways.

That said I still stick by my previous post and would choose the GSG for a more realistic gun, and the Ruger if you want a very accurate fun space gun! :D

P.S. If you make "PEW PEW" noises when you shoot it, you can pretend you are in the Star Wars movies. LOL

I haven't tried the Win ammo, but I have a Colt 1911 .22 conversion that eats anything. Accurate, not fussy, and it doesn't look like a space toy:D. I had a Ruger mk3, meh. It just didn't do it for me. Same with the Mosquito I had. The mosquito worked well with Stingers and not much else. Also didn't care for the trigger, I prefer single action.

When I was 21 my mom bought me a Browning Buckmark for X-mas. It faithfully eats any and all bargain ammo available. I have 2 Mosquitos as well and they are pickey but cci always works well. Grab a Buckmark off the EE and spend lots at Walmart on 555's and you will do well.

P.S. Buckmarks are super easy to clean.

I have an Arminius revolver and it's pretty good. I was looking at the Woodsman, Rugers, and Bucks, and I'm not so hot on the style. I am liking the looks of the Sig P226. I found it at an online dealer for $680. Any better deals out there (I want to buy new)? It's definitely the style I'm looking for and if it fires anything, it may be the one for me.

I have a Browning Buckmark Camper and would recommend it,reliable and less than $400. It has a gold trigger..:D

Ellwood Epps had 3 of them last time I checked for $629. I see them from time to time at P&D Enterprises for $599. I ordered mine from Badger Arms. Decide if you want one with the beaver tail or without though. I didn't want a beaver tail on my p226.

I have a Mosquito and a GSG, we broke in the Mosquito using the CCI mini mags for the first 500 rounds with only one fail to fire and one fail to eject we are now using the cheap Federal bulk stuff and have another 300 ish down range with no problems I like this .22 as the wife and the kids are able to feel comfortable shooting it due to its size and weight.... As for the GSG we are using the Federals and have maybe 200 through it with no problems but it heavier and bigger so the kids and my wife prefer the mosquito as for accuracy I personaly do better with the Mosquito for now anyways

If you are close by your more than welcome to try mine out
