.22LR Shortage?

There's a fair bit of it on the shelves around here. $20/500 for American Eagle, $21.99 /525 Federals.

that is going to change in the next 2 months

.22LR still $21.99 in Cabela's from a year ago.

My supplier has told me .22LR in cases "going down in price in 2010." Thank the U.S. dollar for that.

Offset your cost by buying in bulk. Try to get group buys on 10,000 or more from a dealer to get the price down. Quantity purchases always reduce the price by at least 10% typically. Get five guys to commit to 5250 rounds a piece. That's only 10 cases or $219.90 or 50 cases total. That's enough for a year of shooting at 40 weeks per year at 132 rounds per outing per person. If you save 10% that's 5250 extra rounds or 1050 free rounds per buyer.

the problem with a group buy for something like this is shipping would out weigh the cost, shipping would be high and not worth it. if it was local that would make for a good deal but not everyone is local

Well I feel a bit better now, I replenished my stash to about 6000 rounds. The group buy isn't going to happen as there doesn't seem to be any price breaks from the retailers for buying in bulk (at least here in the gta).

I found a retailer that had american eagles in 500 packs for $22 so I bought him out. He also had cci mini mags for $8/100 so I got a few of those as well.

I feel like I can breathe again, if that makes sense

Hey guys, I heard from my PAL instructor that there's a .22LR shortage here in Ontario, I was wondering if this is just a rumour or if it's true? I was planning on buying .22LR rifle as my first firearm, but if there's a shortage on ammunition then I may go for something else.

According to my instructor, Bass Pro Shop was already sold out and it looks like LeBaron won't have much left for much longer.

If anyone knows for sure, please let me know. Thanks!

Yes, there's shortage. Haven't you heard? It's because of the wars overseas...;)

i don`t think it`s a shortage so much as a `manufacture -distributor` issue. things were stocked up last fall, then most places dried up at Christmas. they will replenish. have no fear.
..... just my .02 cents.

I bought a brick of 500 Remington Cyclone at Gobles a couple of weeks back. They seemed to be well stocked with all kinds of .22 ammo. The C.T. store near my place today had slim pickings for ammo. Didn't see any bulk packs. They just likely haven't replend their stock yet.

I've got enough, actually I dont, I want more.

Judging by the style of those boxes of CCI you've been stock piling for quite some time :)

Last tuesday I dropped by Bass Pro to see for myself, and I counted six boxes of .22LR (total 300 rounds) on the shelves. Looks pretty bare to me! I haven't checked other stores yet, I was just at Bass Pro for some fishing supplies and thought I'd take a look at their ammo shelves.

Someone mentioned the .22LR shortage is because of operations over in the Sandbox. Please explain. I don't see .22LR being used much at all in combat operations this day in age, but I could understand it if manufacturers are re-tooling their machines to pump out more military cartridges rather than civilian plinking ammo.
