234 Wildcat Family....ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Douglas, as in .23-.366 Wagner?

Doug

i'm not going to speak for c-fbmi , but with following what he said previously , I am assuming he already has the tooling to turn out 366 wagner barrels ( ie 9.3x62 ) .......

now can you imagine if he did a savage prefit barrel for the 9.3x62 round ..... anyone with a 25-06 , 270 , 280 and 30-06 could screw one of these barrels onto their action , set the headspace and VIOLA they now have a 366 wagner ......

then when a guy is done hunting elephants he could screw in a .23 pegiun barrel and go hunting well ....... penguins if you wanted ( assuming you could " borrow" the right airplanes and had a good lawyer on retainer :D )

He also has the chamber reamer for the 9.3x57 if anyone wants one. His mentor ordered it more than thirty years ago, to barrel up a matched pair on Turkish Mauser actions for me.

Well, I was playing in my loading room again.......decided to take one of my several 6mm expander stems and try to polish it down to .231". Took it out and chucked it up in the lathe, and low and behold they are not as hard as I thought they would be. Touched a file to it and it actually removed material so, about 3 minutes later with a fine file and some 600 grit paper I have a .231" expander. I can now make any of the family using 22 cal sizer dies of which I have 222, 22-250, 22-243 and 22-284 and pull the highly polished expander ball through and voila 234 Penguin, Lynx, 230 Douglas, 23-08.......pretty much anything, I can now load with 234 bullets. I also have a set of 243 WSSM dies to stage down to 22..............

I assume your using bushing dies for sizing? how many sizes of bushings are you going to make? The brass from each of those parent cases will differ slightly. I've had fairly good results using drill rod.

Nope Marshal, not using bushing dies, never owned a set in my life and do not even know how they work. I'm just using my RCBS FL sizing dies. I know I'm working the brass more than I should be, but it'll get me to the point of being able to fireform a bunch of brass in all the different cases. Then I'll likely look into collet dies or send off a bunch to Huntingtons and have dies made, or get Dave to make me some die reamers for the family and make dies as well. I haven't thought that far forward yet.........I did think about getting a neck reamer made just to ream out all the various 22 cal dies one can buy.....222 Rem Mag, 22-250, 22-243, 22-284 etc. I would pretty much bet that a search of RCBS dies would turn up a 22-6.5X55 as well.
I'll have to look into the bushing or collet dies, I really have no clue at this point, but they may be the one answer for all.

Hey 'Looky, I made up a couple 234 Penguin cases and seated bullets in them and then polished the chit out of them, just for you........I'll give 'em to you at the show this weekend.
Anybody else who would like a sample of the 23 family and is going to be at the Fruitloops gunshow, just let me know and I'll fetch some along..........

I've been chomping at the bit to see what the heck I could scrounge up for a donor.
Sold my last sitting idle Mauser 98 last year............daggnabbitt........in 6.5x55..............duh.
Look fer the yeller hat and a Sightron cappella close to it.
There is a care package or two or three waiting for you too.......................

damm, if I didn't have to work Saturday , it might be worth the 4 hour drive to fruitloops gun show :D

Cawwwwwwfff............s............i.............c...............k..............days?
I could sign a Dr.s note fer ya.

Kamloops shows are usually a great turn out. Stay off the grass as we went to the home show
Saturday and the by-law veehicles were in abundance there.
Don't do much around here c'ept'in cash in where the out of town folk assemble.

Ahem... Douglas has done his level best to overlook my not-so-subtle hint at a .23-08 moniker... but after the Lynx, I really like the sound of the "Puma." Doug, do me the honor of at least a rejection...

You are so perceptive Hoyt, to be honest I really hate that word and it's associated reference to our cougar............Now 230 Cougar has a lilt to it.

I will be heading north after the Fruitloops gunshow, but will be stopping on the way to make 1/2 dozen 23 cal barrels at my good friends in Dawson Ck. I'm hoping to return south after the long weekend and build some rifles, but we'll have to see what the work schedule allows. I may be up to my a$$ in alligators and not be able to return south for a couple months.............keep y'all posted.

Very well then... Cougar works for me... at least she does if I get lucky...

The Bumblebee is apparently unable, according to the laws of physics, to fly. But it does.........

I do like Cougar, though............
