234 Wildcat Family....ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

If it is Internet rumour, it must be true!

sometimes it has some sort of truth as its base , and that gives a guy a direction to do research in ...... other times the quality of the information is no different than the homeless drunk on the park bench telling you what he thinks you want to hear so he can get some money out of you .

Go the David Tubbs route and neck down a .250 Savage to .23 and give 'er a 105 gr. VLD bullet for
some supreme accuracy at 1000 yds., and get good barrel life out 'er of to boot. He's the record holder
for 1000 yds. at present with the .24 calibre version.

No need to burn out barrels with '06 based, over-bored chamberings. I prefer the most economic way of
getting the most shooting fun in, but it's my way.;)

Kevan.......the Brit case would give you virtually identical ballistics to the Penguin, can be done but would have to buy the reamer. Unless a guy could find a 22-303 reamer, I know they exist as a wildcat, just not sure how popular they are/were and whether there may be a reamer around anywhere. Why rimmed Kevan, the #1 has been chambered for virtually every rimless cartridge out there and the extractors seem to work just fine......it's just a personal preference I'm guessing.....

No particular reason or preference Douglas, just food for thought.
Actually I have a pretty good donor rifle, a 788 Remington in 22-250 with a very high mileage barrel.
I'm guessing its seen likely in excess of 5000 rds., possibly more and it has a lot of sentimental value so I'd not part with it .
Back in the 1970s it harvested enough coyotes two winters in a row to pay for a couple new snowmobiles, that was back when snow machines were a lot less costly of course, but it still took a lot of hides.
Between the two of us maybe we can breathe some new life into the old rifle...

I rebarreled a husky 270 into a 9.3x62 ~improved~
That one, it stuck out like a sore thumb there b_s. ;)
Tempted to enquire how this could even be possible?.
No.
Better to crack a brew, suck a few lungfulls on the E-cig, chill, and be a wee bit patient for once.

Ted should be along shortly ....

Apologies OP, but it's been weeks since me last drifted your thread O/T :HR:

40 degree shoulder , shoulder diameter about .458 , overall length of case at 2.520 , throat cut about 100 thou longer , oal around 3.4 . roughly 9-10 % increase in volume of case using privy brass ( off the top of my head it was around 72 grains of water , and just over 79 grains of water after it was fire formed ) .

I have a reamer print on the other computer if your interested

the best thing .... no important rifles where hurt in its creation , it was a totally beat up 270 when I got it

Well gentlemen, if Gatehouse is to be believed we have just become the longest thread in the history of CGN.......:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Not even close

CGN as a whole has many far larger threads.

In the HUNTING AND SPORTING ARMS forum, the "New King" thread started by me has 1692 posts. This one has 950 or so. The 375 Ruger thread that was recently locked has 940 posts.

:)

Johnn.......Marshal and I discussed the various bullet weights he'd be able to produce, all of which would be heavy for caliber, and decided 1-8 would be the most universal twist across the entire family of cartridges and velocities. The 243 has a 1-9 twist and will only barely stabilize a 105 gn VLD bullet so a longer bullet in a smaller caliber would obviously need a tighter twist. I may order a 1-10 twist button for the big cases in the future, but for now I'll try the 1-8 and if I start misting bullets out of the Douglas, I'll probably look at a 1-10 button.

just a thought , wouldn't this thread be considered a spill over thread from the antartic , penguin hunting thread ?

if so I think we should be obligated to add the 2 threads together :D

Hellllllllllow............Mod's...........a class re-union is in order.

All in favour type ............ eye...........

EYE!!!!!!!!!

Apparently I was mistaken, I misunderstood what Gatehouse stated earlier in a different thread when he said it was the longest thread, regarding the 375 Imposter, I thought he was referring to the currently locked 375 Imposter thread, apparently there was a longer one sometime in the past..........my mistake.........It would seem we have a ways to go yet, however we shall persevere as there is much to be tested and said yet.

the first 375 thread gates started was huge ..... but the last 1/2 was pretty much just bickering and taunting ..... kind of like a poorly done reality tv show . ......

I wonder if we can break a 1000 posts here before the weekend ?

This thread has been and continues to be a real tonic for me personally because it helps take my mind off my personal health issues and also because I have so many dear friends involved and contributing to it constantly.
The technical details are fascinating and I'm patiently looking forward to the day when I become a member of the ' 234 ' club...

A huge Thanks to all involved...
