234 Wildcat Family....ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

You know Johnn it's something that has tweeked my interest since I first read the Alberta hunting regs, as a kid, and noted that 23 cal was minimum legal big game caliber, and there was no such caliber in any book at the time. So instinctively my antiauthoritarian instincts said "what would they do if all of a sudden there was a 23 cal, it wouldn't be so cut and dried and easy would it". Just my thought process..........

And that's what sort of got me here to this thread as well. I finally had the time, money and inclination to pursue it a a bit further. I posted on another web site and promptly got "bombed" and another member there, who is also a member here, gave me a heads up to this thread. Thank you very much!

There is no point in re-inventing the wheel so I figured I would support c-fbmi and this thread and see where it all goes. So far so excellent!
Regards,
Dave.

While I completely disagree with the laws prohibiting anything under .23, and I completely understand the Gunnut desire to tinker, from a practical level, the project is truly silly. All the parent cases you are using have been necked to .243 at one time or another, .243 barrels and bullets are readily available and there is nothing that the .23 will do that the .24 cannot.

But of course you know all that, and sometimes it's just fun to FIGHT THE POWER! :)

Sometimes , It's okay to be silly

Looking forward to the .23 caliber Jamboree. ;)

Though only a recommendation, MB has your caliber covered. From the regs:

"A centrefire rifle of .23 calibre or less is not recommended."

:D

Imported from the .375 Ruger Royalty thread.

c-fbmi ... "And do tell what case would you like to see another 23 cal on that you could name?
Maybe one should respond on the 23 cal thread and leave this one for the Imposter lovers !!!"

The roster as it presently stands?

So I guess there is no more input so 230 Hyrax it is for the 23-08..........so now to recap....

23-222RM = 23 Pipsqueak

23-250 = 234 Lynx

23-08 = 230 Hyrax

23X55 = 234 Penguin

23-284 = 230 Douglas

All in favor say AYE
Not too many .23 cal. case capacity holes left in that line-up there, Douglas.
Gotta go with '.234 Dromedary'. Them humpy Sahara type 'o camel suckers, they can spit on ya from far across the road .. and with pinpoint precision.
Once nailed, y'll swear yer cheek is disolving away to jelly .. burn't clear on through into yer tongue's tender territory.
(first hand account, Goulimine Morrocco, 1973)
Pays to be circumspect whense in the vicinity of this recalitrant nasty beast ... hence the name chosen.

'Cause, .. you Sir, are sorely tempting me to spend $ which I do not have on this super kool new shooting toy of yer's ... ding dang ye c-fbmi !!! lol!.

.234 Dromedary would be a Lapua 7x57mm Mauser case necked down, with no other alterations.

Seeing as this guy would be building for precision LR gong-ringing, (not hunting), it all comes down to REALLY good high BC bullets for me.
Anything planned along those lines?.

I can see a .270 Penguin in the future. :)

Your crystal ball has a serious flaw in it there GH !!!

VV...That's funny I got along famously with my camel, that I rode around the Sahara for a couple days. I have to say they're not a lot different from a horse, in their understanding and intelligence. Me and "Ahab" became quite good friends in a very short time. I really think he actually liked me. Growing up on horses and having a pretty good understanding of riding animals didn't hurt I'm sure. The guide/owner? said it was very odd as well, as he was not known as a particularly pleasant camel.........what ever, we had fun racing about the dunes and pyramids !!

Anyway a 23 Dromedary is a good possibility, all it takes is a reamer.........

I sure prefer riding a horse over camels , but camels are better than walking ! Never raced a camel though ! :)

Old days camel failures notwithstanding , with thier big feet they may still be ideal for crossing the muskeg, but I expect a good Percheron ( my favorite horse) works good enough

If a guy got the 2 humpers like I seen all curled up in a raging blizzard in Mongolia, chances are they might even survive the winters here............but what, pray tell, does any of this have to do with 23 caliber wildcats? Oh ya, VV wants 23 camels, now I remember, and name them all Dromedary............or something like that............What a stupid post this is................think I'll have just ONE more wine and head off to bed. I'm not even making sense to me............Think I need to call in an expert...........'Looky you out there? Does this post make any sense to you?

That's not surprising... he probably thought you were playmates back in grade school...

Let me ask me buddie Hoddgie............"Hayya Hoddgie, what say yu"?
"Lewkie, me pense yer buddies is smok'in dem dere Camals"!
"Camals"?
"Camals, stokies, puffs, roches, wahcki tabbaci chit".

Ahhhhhh.........me gits it.

First a walrus and now a camel Hoyt...................what did I ever do to you ? All these unflattering associations, why? Well OK I get the whiskers and walrus thing, but a camel, really Hoyt?

No wacky baccy here Looky, just a FINE chianti, don't like them left handed roll-yur-owns..........

Anyway the world is realigned now and time to get off this silly tangent and get this train wreck back on track..........

TJW...If only I could, believe me I would. No one is itching to get on with this project more than I. It's just so busy here in the Yukon that the boy needs an experienced hand right now..........it would be terribly irresponsible of me to just pack up and head south with him "under the gun" and getting behind. We have 6 guys going flat out, including him, so I am sorely needed in the office to organize and expedite, deal with new jobs coming in and customers and keep the paper blizzard in some semblance of order.
To top this off our office guy gave notice and we are now training a new secretary.............it never ends !!!
However the 23 project isn't dead by a stretch, she's just resting right now while I attend to that which supplies my income.........

Sorry Douglas... I was thinking less about the facial features (as you are correct, there is a strong walrus resemblance there), and more about the hump back....

Perhaps, borrowing a page from Dr.Doolittle, a combination creature (of Push-Me-Pull-You ilk)... say a "walmel" or better yet a "camrus."

Oh, and on topic... see if your barrel lad would want to take a whack at drawing the button through a heavy 24" .22/250 Handi barrel... for Lynx posterity???

Now I'm a hunchback..........this isn't getting any better, Hoyt...........I may have a bit of a "hunchbelly" but my back is straight and true. You seem to take great pleasure in comparing me with some of the weirdest and grotesque animals on the planet............I don't know.........:p
