J/K of course. But would it say Browning or Sako on the barrel? Cause that might work on a technicality.

Perhaps I could just grind the "Savage" off my donor rifle and use an engraver tool to scribe Browning on the barrel.

This little boy will be dreaming of new 234 barrels, and Lynx's (Lynxes? Lynxs? Lynxi?) and new "boolits" going downrange, and really tight groups, and....​
 
I just checked mine and there are no markings visible above the wood on the action and the barrel says "Made in Finland" and under that is "Browning Arms Manufacturers"............but that will be gone with a barrel change of course so there would be nothing identifying it as a Browning as such, except the stock and engraved floorplate, which are both exclusive Browning touches. Regardless they are beautiful rifles and extremely well made...........you could certainly do worse.
What's wrong with an A-bolt or an old BBR..........I'm fairly certain they are both threaded..........what about the newer micro medallion and midas medallion are they not threaded actions?
 
Ya know I gotta admit...you are one patient man for putting up with me D!

My endless questions, silly obsessions and somewhat less than mainstream thinking have tested the best of my friends and yet you simply keep the information coming to me.

Thank you is hardly sufficient and I genuinely hope I can buy you a bottle of your favourite beverage someday and enjoy a glass or two with you.

Well Gentlemen, this thread has been up and active for a full year now............I posted it on my Bday last year, and here it is my Bday again yesterday. Although I haven't progressed as far as I would have liked with this project I have progressed much further than initially thought, in a years time. From concept to reality to a whitetail deer on the ground in 11 months. It doesn't sound like much of an achievement until you start hearing 18 month lead time on bullet dies and 4 month lead time on rifling buttons etc. However Marshal popped a rabbit from the hat and had bullet dies in less than 90 days, which caught me with my pants down and jumped the project ahead by over a year. I lost 4 months in the Yukon packing up stuff and working while my lathe sat idle here in BC and was only able to stop long enough, at my friends, to make 3 barrels. Then I lost another 2 months to hunting and travelling to and from, so really I have done quite well all things considered, to get one of the family up and shooting and harvest the first animal with it.

I'd say that was a pretty impressive year, and suggest that 2015 will see more critters succumb to the Douglas family of .23 calibre rifles. Yeehaw!

I reckon we both wrote some large cheques on our body when we were young; most of mine have come back to be cashed already..........:rolleyes:

I can really relate to this being a year and a couple months away from the seventh decade.
December started out with a new pacemaker for me.

Happy belated birthday Douglas, and to All of You a very Merry Christmas !

And lets hope we have a Healthy and Happy 2015.
 
Well I received my 234 Penguin donor rifle in the mail today and she is pretty spiffy. Never owned a Vanguard before and this VGX model is very nice, she's been hunted a fair bit but the price reflected that and one of the best parts is that it is a 270 that I'll be ripping the barrel off for another tent peg!! If you guys are nice I might post a pic or two. The finish is pretty beat up but all the marks are only finish deep, no scars or gouges so she'll strip down nice and come back up real pretty with a nice oil finish.

Still waiting for my reamer but I have the rifle and 100 brass all formed and waiting, shouldn't be long now.

Just swapped Boomer some 223 for 222 RM to make 23 Pipsqueak with so that is underway as well and I have made up 120 brass for the 230 Hyrax and it's just waiting for a chamber to slide in. I have made up a hundred 234 Lynx which is also just waiting for a chamber to house it. See I have been doing something towards the program just wasn't up to going out a making a fire and playing on the lathe.

I haven't done anything with this project for a while but I have been sick since Jan 1 with a nasty sinus infection and today is the first day that I'm up and working again. I think it's time I got the lathe fired up again and did some wildcat 'smithing...........

Question, what your opinion of or how do you think something along the line of a M69 Schultz & Larsen 6.5x55 target rifle that T.E.C. Trade Ex has would work as a 234 Penguin donar rifle?
