Uhhhhh ....... do you understand how a barrel is made? One does not bore out an existing barrel and change the caliber. :rolleyes:



I used to shoot gophers with a 70gr Ballistic Tip at ca. 3600 fps out of my 243. That combination absolutely vapourized gophers.

just keep shooting till your accuracy starts to fail then possibly set the bbl back and shoot it for another few hundred rounds
bore scopes a waste of money
every bbl is its own self it does not matter what it looks like some times they just work
 
Don't waste your money on a borescope. 95% of guys don't know what their looking at, myself included. Like a few others have said, keep chasing the lands and shoot it until it doesn't shoot to your expectations anymore and then re-barrel it. And you'll know when its cooked. Most guys I know that have cooked a barrel have told me it went from shooting sub moa to barely being able to hit a 6" gong at 200 yards.
 
You never waste money on a bore scope, its a great tool to have and can get one as a very reasonable price these days, it doesn't take long to know what your looking at, I always like to look at a barrel before I clean it and then check it after to see what I have done in the cleaning process, with factory barrels it will surprise you how rough some of them are with tooling marks and pits but yet they still shoot.....so don't be alarmed at what you see, as long as they are shooting its all good.

Like any cartridge if your just using it for hunting it will last longer than you, if your running 20 shot strings and its red hot it will definitely shorten barrel life but if you shoot it like you mention in your OP it will outlive you......reality is barrels are cheap and easy to have replaced in the grand scheme of things, and in most cases an good quality aftermarket barrel will shoot well.

And yes the 240 Wby is an excellent hunting cartridge.....one of my favourites of the Weatherby line up.

You have many life-years remaining on you're barrel. The antelope in my avatar was killed with that 240. DRT!

I definitely don’t shoot it much now. Hoping to have many years with this rifle.
