240 wby

I have a 240 Weatherby Vanguard shoots fantastic with factory loads - can print three shots at 200 around 1.5 inches. No need for me to reload ammo since I am getting very good MOA accuracy out of the firearm.

My custom 240 Weatherby has been good to me over the past few years. It was most easy to find a ultra velocity and accurate load using IMR4831 and Reloder #26, I settled on Reloder #26,using the 90 grain Nosler Accubond. With the 27" Bob Jury barrel, the gun achieved 3,660 FPS with 60 grains of Reloder #26. Accuracy was beyond what was required for hunting. Since I use different rifles for big game, I only used this rifle twice, resulted in DRT kills. This cartridge is a real performer!

Nice Rifle TRACK - 3660 is getting it done with the ACCUBOND .

WHAT. Twist is your barrel ? RJ

What’s the twist in your rifle Bud -RJ

Twist is 1:10, Jim. I always go by what the Nosler reloading manual states, it's my Bible.;) I just had two rifles rebarred by Henry Rempel, a 257 Wby. (1:10 twist) and a 7mm Rem. Mag. (1:9 twist). I finally located brass for both cartridges.......Nosler, $200 "each", a $400 bill, which includes tax and shipping....effing NUTS!!!

My 240 'bee would chase the 100 grain bullets out at 3310 fps
My 26" [8" twist] 6mm Remington makes 3275 with the same bullet.
I sold the 'bee and kept the 6mm. Dave.

Couple nice animals there, Track. Well done.

Years ago I had a 240wby in a Tikka with a pac-nor barrel. Shot very nice. Had a few hundred brass. Liked 95gr partitions.

Last year I had a idea for another one. Just the brass was so expensive. So I narrowed it down to 6mm CM, 6mm-06 or the 6mmAI. As I had lots of brass for both.
Went with the 6mmAI, 26" 1-7.5. Shoots 100gr at over 3350 with IMR4831.

I had a 6mm Rem AI many years ago and thought it was a nifty cartridge, but too much for coyotes and too little (for my personal comfort level) on deer... had several .243's aswell, but got right out of 6mm cartridges all together, jump right from a plethora of .22 centerfires to a plethora of 6.5mm centerfires... I start my big game hunting at 6.5mm.

I had a Weatherby Mark V Backcountry in 240 topped with a Leupold VX3i 4.4-14x40

Key word, had. I liked the gun itself, but couldn't get the SOB to shoot. A few guys I know had the same problems with theirs. Will they do 1" @100? Yes. But when your forking out that much $$ on a rifle, brass etc etc it best shoot 0.5" or less.

For the record I tried the following leads and powders in various combos, various lengths from SAMMI length to touching the lands (yes I could touch my lands in my 240)
-90gr Accubond
-80gr TTSX
-70gr Ballistic Tip for coyotes
-H1000
-RL26
-H4831SC

I shot over 150 accubonds and 100 TTSX with best groups being 1.25" to 1.5"
Best groups I got were with Factory Weatherby 100gr Hornady Interlock and they were right at that 1" at 100m
Was it the gun? Did I get a friday rifle? I have no clue but when I talked to a few other buddies who had them, they said the exact same thing. The 240 isnt a "1 hole" caliber. If your okay with having your rifle shoot 1" or a tad more then your fine, but if I spend $4k on a setup and it doesnt even shoot sub moa with 3 different leads and powder combo, its going down the road in a hurry.

I bought a Tikka T3X in 243 and drill 1 hole with the accubonds and H4831SC @ 3200 fps. Deer wont know the difference anyway and if you have to hold an extra 2" high who cares.

^^
I’ll just tell the people who ask it’s a 6 Creedmoor ackley unimproved. Which, given the people I see who aren’t online, will be between zero and none.

Merry Christmas RJ.
