240 weatherby vs 25-06 rem

went with the 240 bee, probably for the rarity more than ballistic performance over the 25-06, there is no denying the capabilities of the25-06, but then again I can always buy one later, lol thanks people

Nice choice! what model of weatherby rifle did you go with?

The one Vanguard(Howa) I own easily out shoots any one of my 8 MkV's. They're not pretty to look at but they do shoot.

All of my Mark V's shoot less than 1/2 inch and that is plenty accurate for hunting, however; that is only one trait that it offers, and there are many more. What is it with people that "if the gun shoots accurate, thats all that counts"? There is more to a rifle than it shootng accurate. Does your Howa shoot 1/4 inch or less groupings? Does that make it a better rifle?f:P:2:

Oh Gary.. you're so dramatic. Where did I say accuracy is all that counts?

I'm not saying the Howa is a better rifle than the Weatherby MkV, in fact I have a general disdain for the bargain or "price point" rifles that seem to be coming out in almost epidemic numbers from most manufacturer's. I'm merely saying don't be so fast to dismiss the Howa rifle or those who go this route in order to own a Weatherby chambering.

LOL!!! Yea, I guess that I can be a little dramatic. Not to spoil the OP thread, but I have a hangup with utilitarian firearms. Budget, taste and justification does play a big roll when purchasing a firearm and I cannot see myself slapping money on a utilitarian regardless of how accurate it is.

You got that right, there is a epidemic of trash/low price firearms that are pumped out of the American market for quanity purposed and not quality. Today you won't find a winchester, remington, browning, ruger or a Howa-Vanguard (not a true weatherby) in my safes.
Sorry to everyone for the rant, I guess that I like to see everyone purchase a good quality firearm instead of throwing their hard earned money towards something that is sub-standard.

The antelope buck in my avatar was killed in 2010 with a 240 Weatherby Mark V Euromark using 85 grain Nosler Partitions. One shot at 310 paces and he dropped like a sack of potatoes. He was facing me straight on where you can see the entry wound at the base of his neck and the bullet exited at the hind. Fabulous results from a .244 caliber.

Great pic!

Thank you very much! The spring and summer of 2010 were very wet seasons for the prairie provinces where flora and vegetation flourished. The buck dropped in a sea of tall grass like the Serengeti in Africa. Moreover, it was a 5 mile, 2 1/2 hour cat and mouse stock on foot................I will never, ever forget this hunt.
Also, it is amazing how that 240 Weatherby performs on big game......an under-rated cartridge.

sweet speed goat Track I think i'll try 90 grain accubonds or perhaps a 90 grain sirocco.
I've seen alot of powder loads out there but none for superformance and I want to try it, but i can't find any info tor the 240 or my 8x57. can anyone help me out with that?

The load that I used resulted in a hunters/reloaders favorite. My 240 Weatherby appears to really like the shorter/lighter bullets. Nine times out of ten the Nosler reloading manual gives me what I like, my second source of good loads is the Sierra Manual. Anyway, here is the hunting load I use in the 240 Weatherby:

Firearm: Weatherby Mark V Euromark
Nosler 85 grain Partition
IMR 4831- 53.0 grains
Norma Brass
CCI Large Rifle Primers - Bench Rest
COL 3.100 Inches
Volocity - 3,450 plus fps
Groupings- 3 shot - 1/2 inch or less

The 240 is the third one down.

So how much does one have to spend on a rifle in order to fill their tags?? :p

Some hunters say that "I don't hunt with an ugly gun". My son and I love quality firearms and if we had more money we would purchase more of them. To some people they may state that we live a boring life because we don't smoke, (well the odd cigar) drink, gamble or cheat on our wives. All of our money go's towards firearms, hunting and shooting. Money invested on the 240 Weatherby was quite rewarding.
