243 for brush hunting?

My stepdad hunted everything with a 30-30 he would give us kids the Lee Enfield or the 22 LR we wasn't allowed to use his 30-30
Seen him shoot more moose ,deer ,and coyotes with his 30-30
what people forget is everything from a 22 short will work but if you go to to small you going to have to realy limit you shooting opportunities and are putting a handclap your equipment
I think going to big is a much more serious problem blasting a grait big hole in a moose or deer creates a lot of wasted meat
The most scary Hunter is not the bush Hunter it's the Long range guys with there big magnums trying to hit a moose at 800 yards because he seen a YouTube video
I would rather hunt with a undergun bush Hunter then over gun high power long rang marksman

Respectfully No -we are talking about short shots under a 100 yards calaber becomes less important the closer you get
General bush hunting a 308 is probably the most usefull but I would not pass up a good cheep 243
What I think is more important is the rifle and a BLR is a fine bush rifle as long as ther is no scope on the rifle and just run Iron sights
You gain distance with a scope but you give up a lot in a bush rifle

I don't think ther is a advantage 243 I know it will work
but I do think a 308 and 30-06 are the best bush caliber and by far the most useful
Evan on Haida Gwaii or Telegraph creek you can always find a box of 308 or 30-06 to me Ammo availability is most important and that makes the 30-06 king but 308 ,45-70,270,is just behind it 243 is at the bottom of my idea of a bush caliber
For me a bush rifle you need to be able to shoot from awkward positions in thick bush wear a tight grip mite not be possible so reasonable recoil is important and the rifle needs to be reasonably short
I have just got a HS position in 7mm RM it's to long for a bush rifle with its 24" barrel but it is better then the modern hunter I traded I don't know what I'm going to use it for yet maybe farm hunting or pronghorn in Alberta as it's not a bush rifle my T/C prohunter with 15" 308 barrel is a bush rifle

.243 for bush? Functional yes, ideal no, unless by bush you mean through tall grass along the edge of a field.
Seems like asking if a Miata is ideal for running erands around the back woods, a 97 chevy truck would be better (.338 federal, 30-06 or 350 rem)

Seriously...... I usually fall asleep after "the shot".....
I flip a canoe up by Burns Lake and lost my 260 rem ammo and sum camping gear and food
I had to go to a small local sport store to buy a nother box and guess what no 260 rem good thing I had Family on the Rez I was able to borrow a old 30-06
That evening I got a nice bull and if I did not borrow the 30-06 I would have probly would have missed out on a moose as I would have had to drive all the way to Prince George for ammo
If 243 ammo is readily available it's a good Choice it's not the best but still better then nothing and wrecking a hunting trip
I got rid of the 260 as it almos cost me a moose

Yep....... and I don't do the epic style canoe hunts carverk does either....... but you can be sure I will have some ammo on my person or in a floating dry bag.......
Never lost the rifle or my pack thay got wet but thay wear tide off
I did lose my small hunting bag with my ammo and spare knife cumpas snacks plus camp stove ,Colman lamp and my Favorite Cast-iron frying pan And sum food #### happens in the bush I realy miss that frying pan
