243 or 22-250

One thing to consider w/the 22-250 is its’ report. It certainly has a distinctive “crack” to it, as opposed to a more mild/louder thump of other Cals.

If your gaining access to areas or hunting ‘Yotes near Livestock, some farmers/landowners won’t take kindly to their livestock being spooked by it.

I had both the 22-250 and 243Win while actively chasing Song Dogs. I ditched the 22-250 and kept the 243win based on my own experiences I noted above that and the 6mm stuff just handles the wind better in wide open fields.

No that's why I'm looking at either one. I own many high Caliber rifles just want a fun plinker. And something for my boys to learn on when they are old enough as well
.223 Rem, factory ammo is relatively cheap still. If you reload .223 is more affordable, smaller powder charges and cheaper small rifle primers and bullets aren’t expensive. Easy shooting and won’t burn barrels like .243 or .22-250.

I have had the same dilemma. I had a 243 I just sold and setup a t3x 22-250. I missed a coyote at 80 yards and sold the gun that night. I know it was me but I just didnt use it enough, always use other calibers. Boxes of hornady 55gr for the 22-250 were cheap. I also handload which is more fun cause bullets in .224 are cheaper to buy than 6mm.
I agree on .223 as a great option and would be my choice if I didnt load my own. Shooting orange clay disks at 200 yards + is easy with a tikka 223.

If you only care about either a 250 or 243 and shoot only varmints then I look at it that the 250 is for cool kids and 243 are for people who play it safe, want to gain some experience with a rifle that can do deer or varmint. If you let the barrel cool down I doubt the 250 will burn out a barrel for normal use. Time to rock and roll

A .243 can play the roll of a 22-250. A 22-250 can’t play the roll of a .243, factory form and factory rifles of course.

A better debate is .243 and or .223

Last couple years .223 gets the nod for availability of small rifles primers and 55gr sp bullets alone for a plinking range toy.

The benefits of 243win, it can be a double duty rifle from coyote to big game. No issues harvesting Ontario whitetail and black bears. A great little cartridge that has low enough recoil my wife can shoot and hunt with confidence..

Coyote gun that is fun at the range plus good learning tool for young kids? That's a .223. Or a 6.5 Grendel if you reload.

Maybe I am biased because I have over 30 .223 rifles, but I think it's hard to beat as a low recoil yote and fun gun.

as usual a question specific to a topic is taken over with answers that have nothing to do with the question
243 would be a better calibre on all levels 55 gr bullets up to 100 gr if wanting to really get into taking yotes out to 400-600 yds

Thread drift- it's real! LOL
Choosing between the two I would choose the 22/250. But neither would be my choice because of the distances I kill 'yotes at🙂
