.243 win easily takes down the tiny deer in the QCI. I used a Remington 700 Mountain rifle in .260 there. Was more than enough. Deer are everywhere and ranges are close.
Thanks for the input guys, it never occurred to me about a 6.5 creedmoor as not many people seem to shoot that here. May be worth a look. .243 just seemed to be the norm up here that’s mostly my reasoning for looking into it

.257 Roberts....... but between the two you listed - .243
Well likely you are asking for a real, IN-SITU .243 comment, the last NECK SHOTS with (Winchester overpriced) Ballistic and Fragmenting Winchester --- shot from less than 100 yards.....Are U listening...the Buck Walked walked.... Away on a neck shot.
Browning Bar Belgium Grade III
I know since I observed that animal,
it dropped on its feet,
that buck struggled towards the home, the deep coolie where it felt was home...
A hot .243 from <102 yards, pure shots, and that buck took afoot, walked, focused its last few minutes of being, I watched it paw each foot placement, the stare of it's eyes,...then as a hunter, or animal with a more proficient weapon.
If any of you think that a bullet, or placement, or caliber, or scope makes you Special, then your have NOT spent any Real Time In the Bush!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
The Winchester Ballistic Silvertip the Best of the Best, did not even stop a Buck in a Neck shot,

The 243 and 270 are more then enough for any deer sized game. The 243 is very loud however easier to shoot as the 270 can have some kick when using larger bullets. If deer are your primary quarry (even dinky coastal blacktails, I would choose a .25 cal or 6.5mm... you already have two long action cartridges... as said above, the .270 does not do much that your .30/06 wont, in practical terms... you might as well choose a short action cartridge... these days, starting out with a new rifle, there is little reason not to choose the 6.5 Creedmoor... rifles and ammo are everywhere, and the ballistics are right in the sweet-spot for your purposes.
