Springfield did it in the 1970s. I used to import them at one time. That was when they used mostly all military
parts in assembling their guns. 243 was offered for a few years by them. They were the only factory guys to
offer it. Maybe they would do it again. I think it really had a lot to do with export to Europe. At the time 308 was
not allowed in semi automatic rifles for civilians, so 243 was offered. Saw a few in Germany around the same
time at waffen frankonia main store.
You can get a 243 M1a custom done by west wind rifles in Erie Colorado . David Sullivan is the owner.
303-828-3823 Price is over $1000.00usd. He used to work for Krieger. They send their customers
to him for custom work they don't want to do. He makes the barrel, installs it and shoots it until it works.
Funny to read this thread after recently receiving a pm asking to buy my 243 barrel from a fellow CGNer & then tonite my new gf says why havent you built those couple M14 rifles you have all those parts for? Maybe its time to stop collecting parts & begin building some rifles. Shorty M14 in 243 should be sweet. Cheers fellow CGNers,

Here are some pictures of my IDF Parts kit build from Wolverine Supplies....
First the barrel markings (not IDF... I just installed it but I could not wait to show all of you...)
Now a larger picture of the rifle... if photobucket ever cooperates:
Here's a picture of the bolt markings....
As long as you can see, these unicorn calibers CAN be found....
Cheers,

He is apparently located in Erie, CO. Have you heard of ITAR? You wouldn't be able to import a barrel from him without getting special permits from the State Dept. It would take months and you'd have a fee of at least $175 to pay, on top of the cost of the barrel. As for shipping your gun down there to get the work done (having him shoot it till it works) - good luck with that. Their is basically no legal way to send a gun to the States, have work done on it and get it back.
You absolutely can import gun parts and without much headache. I used irunguns. Took just a couple of months.
Please cite which laws prohibit the import and export of firearms to and from the USA.
