.243 WSSM good?

Getting that 55 gr to shoot MOA may be another story though. Ive always found in .243 that those light bullets shoot terrible and the bullets in the 75 gr seem to shoot well.

I shoot the 55 grain BT out of my plainjane 6mm Remington at 4115 fps with a nice load of N550. Drop is only 3.5" @ 300. Don't think I need WSSM any time soon. Regards, Eagleye.
 
Agreed. 243WSSM is no better or worse than the 243 or 6mm rem. They're all about the same.

And if I wanted to shoot 55gr bullets, I'd use my 22-250. In my mind, the 6mm is well suited to the 75gr bullets

The WSSM family is a marketing ploy only, and a ballistic dead end anyway!
The only one of any potential interest would be the 25WSSM, but I'm not sure
it would be worth the hassle of new dies, cases, etc, over a 257Roberts.
(I actually tried out the 243 and 25 units....dies, cases, the whole shebang..
and concluded that there was NO advantage over the traditional..243Win, etc.
I actually sold the 223 version without firing a shot...just no improvement over the 22-250).
I've got die sets for the whole WSSM family, if anyone's interested...:redface:
 
Maybe if you already had a different caliber, but I have a friend who just bought a 25WSSM, and another who bought a 325WSM.

Neither has an equivelant cartridge, so they decided on these cartridges.

I think marketing ploys spawned over half of our modern cartridges, becuase , let's face it - you can hunt everything in north America with a small , medium, and large caliber!!:confused:
And if you REALLY want to get practical, you can get rid of thee medium, OR the larger one!:eek:
But then, whoever said "practical " came into play when talking about gunnutz!!

I own a 577/450 and a 45/70, as well as a .577, and a 40/65.
All do the same thing.

I also own a perfectly accurate sporter .303 Brit, why would I need any of the wildcats I put together?
As a matter of fact, my factory Longbranch could displace the sporter.

Hell, I may as well get rid of 75 or so of my firearms-----NOT!!:cool:
I buy 'em and shoot 'em 'cause I like 'em, which is the reason I LOVE the 6mm Rem. but HATE the 243Win.!!:D

Yeah, just cause the WSSM's bring nothing new to the table doesn't mean they're bad. There's hundreds of redundant cartridges out there. If you ALREADY HAVE a 243, then you might want to pass the 243 wssm by. If not, then flip a coun and get either/or.
 
The short mags were never designed to bring any improvement in ballistics, just a different package. As a different package, they are very interesting.

I don't hunt with a 6mm but if one did and wanted the most compact of rifles, the WSSM super short action would be it. That IS a novel product.

Just have to decide if it turns you on enough to spend the money.

Why bother with tiny bullets in any 6mm?
"...LOVE the 6mm Rem. but HATE the 243Win..." Same thing, ballistically. 100fps velocity difference doesn't make up for the lesser availability of the 6mm Rem.
 
The 6mm pressures up differently than the 243, and is a better case for wildcatting. I don't have a probl\em getting 6mm brass. I don't need a reason to buy another rifle, or hate another cartridge except my own experiances with them.

I had a 223 wssm & traded it off.Still have a 7mm RSAUM & a Brwn A bolt in 25 wssm which I have not fired yet along with 10 other rifles I bought or traded for over the winter.Just not enough time in a day.Also i still have a 223,257R.,7x57 & 7-08 on its way.Not that I needed the short mags I WANTed them.DAN>>>:D :p
 
The regular .243Win can reach a muzzle velocity of 3910fps as a factory load from winchester in those nifty ballistic silvertips @ 55gr they shoot pretty flat as well just chek out the ballistics for your self on the winchester site
 
I had good accuracy with the 58 gr V-MAX. I wasn't pushing 4000 fps but does a coyote/target really know the difference? Dead is dead. I like all the 6mm and 243 variants. They are all accurate and very deadly on small to medium sized game.
