25-06 A dead Calibur ?

For the sake of conversation what doesn't a .270 do...? I'm guiding a lot of mountain goat all of a sudden, and frankly there isn't a better cartridge for mountain goat, sheep, and the odd long crack at wolves from this fellow's perspective. It's the perfect blend of recoil, blast, Weatherby like trajectory, and off the shelf ammo at a dusty home hardware. I am a little confused at all thrashing the .270 takes. It's one of the best cartridges we've got on your average hardware store's shelf, it reaches further than any hunter except Dogleg I've hunted with yet, and it kicks like a powder puff- same as a .25 actually with my current load of the 110gr TTSX. Shoots as flat as a .257 Weatherby with that load, to boot.

What's not to like?

Well, for one, it can't match the 270 WSM or 270 Wby with any load.

Both true. Aso holds two more in the mag than either, though, and at the cost of blast and... Yea never mind none of them actually kick.

I've always wonder about the significance of those two extra rounds in the mag = I max ever shoot 2 rounds at game don't need more hmmm that could be why I started shooting single shots.

Meh, for guiding in the mountains I've set to only carrying five rounds on a stalk as ounces matter. I'd rather just have the rounds in the mag, mag capacity is still a feature I value for sure.

Not familiar with Alberta game laws. I have read that non residents couldn't hunt them but I wasn't sure of the truth of it as it was a us magazine

You get a hunter host licence and you can bring in up to two relatives and act as their guide on a hunt in Alberta. Did for a couple of guys back in 07, I think. - dan

not just relatives.

I just did the Hunter Host for one of my old Army buddies from the UK.

you just can't hunter host every year.



Oh and 25-06 is my go to deer gun, 110grn Noslers.

My 257 Weatherby way out performs my 270 WIN ! RJ
