25-06 suggestions

If you want a nice long barrel but not an overly long gun......take a look at a Ruger #1 or T/C prohunter. 26 & 28" barrels respectively but overall gun length is the same as a 22" barrelled bolt gun. I can reload both of my single shots very quickly. And I have never needed a second shot anyhow. I always bring enough gun for my intended game.

I'd have to say tikka if you're on a budget. Older T3s are still available for a couple of hundred less than a new t3x.

Other than that, Sako or Steyr all the way.

A buddy of mine bought a Weatherby vanguard s2 in 25-06 a few months ago and has nothing but good to say about it. He said he consistently gets .6 of an inch with 3 shot groups

Everyone letting you know "their" favourite which are their brand. My two cents for you as I am a Remington guy would be two find a used model 700 classic or maybe a bdl. If you are a stand Hunter you may want a 24" barrel for longer shots but if you still hunt or tramp through the bush a shorter barrel may be better. Some of us don't like extra weight going through the bush so I like an 18 1/2" or 20". Also remember 25/06 is along action so also more weight. Good luck

I have two 25-06 rifles a 24" barreled Rem 700 XCR 11 and a shortened to 24" from 28" barreled stainless T/C Prohunter.

I find I pack the Prohunter more for deer and the Rem for coyotes.

This could quite possibly be the best deal out there right now;

The Bell and Carlson stock alone costs around $400 and is a huge improvement over the factory "tupperware" stock

Thanks guys awesome replies. I'm from southern sask so nothing but bald prairie all day long that's why I was leaning more towards the 25-06 over a 7mm-08. Just waiting for my approval to the EE forums so I can check them out.

We picked up a used stainless T3 in 25-06 for the wife. Seems like a solid rifle. Cannot wait for her to get a chance to shoot it. Good luck with your search!

Have you looked at the howa ? Solid rifle, lil heavy yes, int mag, very accurate, full hogue stock (quite grippy even in - cold temps) but it doesn't get cold in sask does it? Haha but they sell for decent ish price
I dont reccomend the scope package tho, nikko wasnt good imho . Id buy another for sure great mid enty level rifle
