25/06 what does it do best?

My Daughter & SIL each have a Savage 112BVSS in 22-250 and after seeing how well they shoot:d, I opted for the same model, but in 25-06.

The intended use was for long range use on Varmints & Pred's. It's done some vicious assults on paper

but sadly:(, hasn't yet been used on any of it's intended victims.

Shot lots of deer, groundhogs, yotes.
Outstanding caliber,
In my mind, this caliber is underestimated.
Yes this is my old lady rifles (formerly),
few years ago, we shot two deers, they were side by side,
She took Left, I took right.
they were at 125 yards.
25-06 was shooting a 100gr Bal-tip VS
300 WSM, 180 Accubond.
Guess what? No BS.
they do the same internal damage,
Yes, of course, both drop on the spot.
Kind of rear shoulder shot, on both, so I was able to compare, because shot placement were the same.
The Only difference:
After the 25-06 exploded the humerus the other side, the bullet stop there, and didnt go threw the skin.
were the 300 WSM, did the Same damage, meat and skeleton, bones, after destroying the Humerus, the bullet carry on going....
Groundhogs and yotes, with small fast bullet 100gr and below: watchout the effect is pretty devastating.
(Formerly) she was shooting with and Od6, but she didnt liked the kick. yes she is pretty weak and flimzy. now shooting a 243.
but I have used her rifle quite much, and liked it a lot.
Its too sad they dont built something betwen the 30-06 and the 25-06, like a 6.5-06.
They do custom made some, but factory, it would be awesome.
my 2 cents.
Sold my 300 wsm, tired of the ridiculous recoil/punch and get beatted.
Bought a 270wsm instead, but a 6.5-06 would have caught my attention for sure.

More's our loss... when you left, we had to import some FUDD from Louisiana to meet our quota...

You may really be onto something there. Something with say a .277 or .284 bullet in an '06 case. That would pretty much be perfect :p

In my eyes, easterners start at the border of Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
The first province to touch an ocean after leaving the Pacific coast is the dividing one.
Pretty hard not to call Alberta Westerners.

What divides us from Easterners ain't culture .. no, the divider is physical .. a line of mountains several thousand feet high.
As you drive westward across the flat expanse of the prairies, eventually you get to where you see the range of snow-topped peaks ..
a range extending from our southern border to Alaska. It was meant to keep Easterners out. Then some damn fools invented the airplane.
(grumbles).

Most consider anyone east of the MB/ON border "easterners" as Manitoba is considered a prairie province, like AB and SK, and as such is "Western Canada".

I take offense to being called an Easterner... Central-Westener is much more politically correct, lol!

I havent read the whole thread to see were the geography and politics sidetracked a 25-06 discussion...

IMO the 25-06 is a great gun for deer sized game out to moderately long (400 yds) with the right projectiles. Since common projectiles stop at 120 grains, the little pills just dont have the energy/wide wounding down range...there is simply not a lot even the best shot can do about diminishing terminal performance.

A great caliber for a wide range of critters...overkill for varmits, long range predator and antelope, short to moderate range on Elk and Moose. Are there better for all these purposes...sure. A step up from the 243 Win for recoil shy and not $60++ a box for ammo like the 257 Weatherby.....but then again try finding a box of ammo in Buttfork nowhere, Canada.

.25-06 ??

Ohh rrrright! Yes, I do own a .25-06 .. kind of a nice one too .. a Kimber Montana 84L
Perfect gun and calibre for most game out here in the WEST. ... *nods for emphasis*

But having said that .. I'm going to sell it. No that there is anything wrong with my .25-06 ..
No. I just have another Kimber in .243 that I actually use .. and the .25-06 sits in the safe.
BUT .. *points finger at audience* .. but .. for a safe queen, the .25-06 is VERY accurate !!
