25 Yard Freestyle Accuracy.....let's play a game.

I posted a little link to a printable 8X10 version of a B8 in my original post.

B8 is an NRA 25 yard timed and rapid fire pistol target.

Generally, if you can keep them all in the black of a B8 at 25 yards consistently, you have my attention as a shooter. It looks much easier to shoot than it is. Not only do you have to group well, but you actually have to hit what you are aiming at.

There is no time limit, so take your time. If the shot doesn't feel right don't take it. I tend to time my 25 yard groups from the draw, but that's just because I want to add a little pressure. I usually end up in the 35 second range to shoot a B8 at 25 yards. Remember at this distance sight alignment and trigger press are more important than sight picture. Don't get sucked into the "Now!" syndrome.

I shot them at 20 yards. That is the max distance of that range. The 20 yd target is scaled down, so it is a fair approximation of how I would do at 25. The 10 ring measures 2.260"

This is an interesting exercise, because I can compare various guns. The 2" snubbie did better than I thought it might.

Ganderite thank you very much for participating, but those are 20 yard targets, did you shoot them at 25 yards?

Either way, great shooting.

Will do this Friday night at class. I expect to suck as my eyes #### with me once I hit the 25. an IPSC target I can keep them in the A, usually, but my left eye is all "look at what I can do" and my right is all "wtf am I doing back here?"

good challenge though dude.

Until the weather clears I'm stuck with the same thing with Tuesday night indoor shooting. Otherwise the target pictures would look like used toilet paper from the rain..... And that might also be a valid description of my shooting as well.... :D

That's why I posted above that I'd try it but just for giggles. I can scale the targets but it leaves the bullet holes too large and produces an advantage. Sort of like shooting .45's when everyone else is limited to 9mm. The holes just reach out further to those rings.

Slavex, welcome to the beginnings of old age..... :D It doesn't get any easier either. Some days I feel like I'm heading out onto a modern battlefield that is stuffed full of fancy radar, FLIR, shoulder launched Stingers and other modern stuff and I'm stuck in an old WWII Sherman.... :D

Shot these today. I was hoping for better and I will try again. I had old bullets from 10m yrs ago loaded and the front sight fell off the Targetmaster and I lost the magazine for the G34 and the G21 has the New Orleans 43 pound trigger and ......... gotta keep trying.

I haven't got confirmation from ww270mm so redryder has top score with 95 - 3X.

Ganderite get's honorable mention for his work at 20 yards.

The gauntlet has been thrown down boys.

Here you go, from a closet bullseye shooter shooting an old school gun at an old school target. 97-4x after three tries (#1 and #3 were 96's)

The gun is easily capable of a 100-10x, me not so much.

btw ww270's target looks like a 98-6x to me

WW270 and rgv great shooting there. You bullseye shooter guys are kickin the action shooters butts. Must be something about getting that heartbeat down below like 25bpm's LoL
Great shooting. C'mons lets see some more of the action guys get into this.

Clobbershot

Indoors at 20 yards. I'll try outdoors at 25 yards this weekend. Some nice shooting here by others!

Shot some more pistols. 20 yards at a scaled down target. Scores sucked. Pistols did not seem to shoot to POA. I wonder if it relates to my new shooting glasses?

Anyway, at least you can compare the groups of various pistols.

Wow, your pistol collection is very impressive. I'm drooling over your S&W 3919.

Those groups are actually very good considering the variety of pistols you shoot. I'm sure is you standardized on one of those pistols for a few weeks group size and POI would improve dramatically. Great shooting.

Yes, I have a lot of pistols. There are still some I have never shot. Each time I go to the range I will try to take 10 more to try out for score. I am looking forward to this as a way to categorize all the pistols in a fairly uniform way.

Once upon a time I would regularly shoot high 90's on that target, with a 22. I will try to add that to the shoot, as well.

If I stuck with just one gun and I am sure I would get it dialed in and I would group tighter with it. If I was going to shoot a serious IDPA or CQB match I woudl use the M&P40 with the 155 gr bullets. Accurate and low recoil. Second choice would be my 9mm CZ75. Third choice would be my 1911 in 7.62x25.

The 3919 is a very nice piece. For an alloy frame it feels very soft in recoil. That always surprises me when I shoot it. It has night sights. The trigger is set way back, so it is one of the few pistols my wife feels comfortable with. Designed as a CCW pistol, the single stack mag makes it very slim in the pocket.

The guns that made me think "I'll have to shoot these more because I like the sights and trigger." were the two Grand Powers. Out of the box they have better triggers than most guns with a trigger job and the sights are excellent.
