Yeah that's the pic I saw. I'm confused as Nosler is saying that it is the .404 but the base dimensions are not what a rimless .404 should be.
Talked to the tech guys at Nosler yesterday and they said it is definitely a .404

So it's basically a 6.5mmWSM long or a .264 RUM short.![]()
More like a 7mm Dakota necked down to 6.5mm
That's not even close to being as fun to say
Your Savage will hold 3 under using the Ruger case but most likely not using the 404 based case, without some magazine mods.
According to the case measurements as posted in # 31 the parent case would be a 375 Ruger if in fact those dimensions are correct.
Post # 31 duplicates the case head measurement of my new unfired 375 Ruger brass which is .532" for case head and rim edge,
My 404 Jeffery brass does have a slight variation between brands but measured in the same places they mike out at .542", .543" and .545" and this is for three different brands of 404 brass..... Hornady, A-Square, and Bertram in order of measurement.
I guess only time will tell....
The 404 is Nosler's official answer.
If you wanted to make use of 140's I'd go no lower than at the very least a nine twist. I heard reports from shot that it's an 8 though.
I highly doubt that extreme spread could be kept down enough to make accurate use of the long range capabilities. That's a lot of capacity to even come close with any power to fill up a case with a 140 on top.
If it is then the diagram in post #31 is out to lunch......
It looks very similar to a 7mm Dakota, which IIRC is based on the .404 Jeffery. Have you played with the latter?
Besides Nosler, who else will chamber the 26Nosler?

Really the only 3 calibers that interested me on the 2.5" 404 case were the 375, 416 and 458. The 458 is the old 460 G&A short so it's been well wrung out many years back.
There was a fellow that modified RUM cases to fit short actions and he made the chamberings from 9.3 to .470 IIRC. His name escapes me. He made rifles in short, handy carbines with 18" - 20" barrels.
