I'm thinking of a new rifle as a bench toy for myself and in a few years, as a first rifle for my oldest. Out of the 3, which would you choose? Rifle will probably be a tikka. I'm leaning towards the 6.5x55 right now.

I had a T-3 Varmint in 6.5x55, for a lower priced range gun, and it easily did sub 1/2moa for five shots. Two other friends still have their Tikka in 6.5x55, and they are just as accurate.

Swede. Its one of my favorites. I am very impressed by it. Shooting a 160 gr Woodleigh is a match made in heaven. I also use the 142 mk's for LR target. Stupid accurate.

260 if you reload and then get the long action bolt stop and mag for the tikka so you can load em very long and use all the available powder space. I have a 7mm-08 loaded to 3" col.

I've had them all several times over in various platforms... they are all great cartridges, I am down to just one Swede at the moment, a Ruger M77 MKII... but I am on the hunt for a Ruger M77 MKII Stainless .260... if I could only choose one, it would be the Swede... the CM is my least favourite of the three.

If it's in a Tikka there is zero advantage to a short action chambering (unless you remove the spacer and want to seat the bullets long) as all Tikka's are long action. Go with the Swede.

The two most accurate rifles I've ever owned were a T3 in 6.5 swede and a Model 700 Mountain rifle LSS in 260. In a Tikka I would probably buy the swede, then carefully load it up to 260 velocities.

After spending months of internet search, I settled and bought a savage long range hunter in 6.5x284. It beats every one mentioned above in speed, cool factor, and accuracy.

I was in this predicament last fall. I ended getting a tikka 30-06 and rebarreling to 6.5-284. The recoil is very mild, no different than any 260 or 7-08 I've ever shot. I am pushing the 143 eldx just over 2900 fps out of a 24" barrel with zero pressure signs. You really can't go wrong though with any of your choices. Good luck!
