I just purchased a Rem 700 BDL S/S DM with a 24" sportster tube with recessed target crown, no "J" lock:D I'll buy some factory ballistic tips for the brass but will need some sweet load data for her. This will fit nicely between my T3 243 Win and my 700 BDL S/S 270 Win. Will likely replace factory stock with HS precision or Hogue by summer. Thinkin' a 4-12 VXII A/O would suit nicely..or hell even a VXIII 4.5-14x40 A/O...we'll see how good ebay is to me:cool: Give me some feed back to what your experience has been with this cal please.

Cheers

The .260 is a fine wolf/coyote rifle and will do the job on deer handily... I think it will like the 100 grain B/T's at about 3100 fps.
Bring it to the range soon buddy... I can't touch it cuz it's a yucky Remington... but I can't wait to see it shoot.

be a tough call between the .260 and the .308 for the best of the .308 parent case.

I;d have no problem using a .260 for Bear and moose, providing excellent shot placement.

maybe Todbartell will crawl off the floor and add to this topic :D

I just got the same rifle but haven't had a chance to fire it yet.
With my other 260, I've found it works well with powders similiar to 308 performers like Varget, 3031, however mine has done it's best with some slightly slower powders, in particular RL19. Velocity out of that 26" barrel w/ 139gr Lapua tgt. bullets is ~2730 fps. That's without really pushing it.

I suspect the rate of twist in the BDL is the same as advertised for the Mt.Rifle (1:9). That should be OK for the heavier bullets.

The heavier 6.5 bullets (140 ish) penetrate extremely well. I have taken moose with the similiar 6.5x55 and that cartridge is popular for moose in Sweden.

Well thank god I reload because dahm...factory 260 Rem is NOT easy to find. And when you do the cost is insain!!! Looks like I'll be stuffin' Nosler 100 &120 grain ballistic tips and 130 grain Barnes TSX's for bigger game that require that little bit more. Should spell the doom of many dirt pigs and coyotes and will be my go to rifle for my up comming caribou hunt

IMHO...you're overstocked with rifles that fire good "deer cartridges";) ....sell the 243,..replace it with a 22-250 or a Swift....peddle the 270 and get something in a 30 caliber....maybe a 300 Winny or even bigger..how about a 35 Whelen:D

The 260 Remington [6.5 Panther for your benefit, Mark :D ] Is the ballistic twin to the 6.5x55 Swede. This is a fine choice for all North American game up to and including Moose, [with careful bullet placement] I have shot several moose with the 6.5x55, and it is just fine. I prefer the 140 Partition for the larger stuff, but no reason why a BarnesX or a Good bonded bullet would not work equally well. My 700 Classic will just make 2800 with it's 24" tube, using very slow powders like Norma MRP and Vihtavuori N-165. It will shoot groups under 1½" at 300 yards, and is a pleasant rifle to shoot. You almost have to reload to exploit the 6.5's in any flavor, but again, it is easy to load for. Enjoy your 260, It's a winner!! FWIW, I have a 700SSDM in 30-06, and it is the most accurate factory rifle I have ever owned, bar none. Regards, Eagleye

Rembo,

Its not a case that I'm missing the 30 cals...I just neglected to add them to the list. Rifle inventory is well stocked with .22 rimfire, 243 Win, 260 Rem, 270 Win, 30-06 7600 carbine, 300 RUM. I'm confident that anything that walks north america I have a solution for.

Where did you gents lucky enough to find these gems? I'd like to get myself one... 'Course my dream is that Remington will start to offer the CDL or even the SPS in .260 next year... Guess we'll see... :)

Sorry to tell ya fellas but that last 260 BDL S/S DM 260 @ Ellwood Epps was the one I bought. The extra fancy engraving won't kill anything deader but I certainly didn't pay anything extra for it. I'm gettin her picked up on Tuesday so I'll be sure to get photos posted.

that BDL SS DM in 260 w/ 24" tube was one of the first two factory Remington rifles chambered to the cartridge, the other being the 20" Model Seven SS. IIRC the SS DM 24" was discontinued after a year or three. Certainly a nice rifle. Cant wait for the pics. :)

Dang!

Well, don't that just beat all! Lucky you. I also once saw a blued Rem 700 VLS .260 for sale at a gunshow for $850 cash. Dang, shoulda bought that one, too. :(

Guess I'll have to go the todbartell route & get a custom barrelled one on a Rem 700 action...
