260 Remington

It's a well balanced cartridge that shoots flat enough & hits hard enough for 90% of what a guy needs to do in North America with a centerfire rifle. Mild recoil, good accuracy, and usually chambered in nice trim rifles are other advantages, which it shares with a number of other similar cartridges. But as a complete package the wannabes (257 Roberts, 2506, 7-08) fall short compared to the 260 Remington. It's not as popular because most people are morons

I'm going to find out this fall how my new 7600 in 260 performes on game.I plan on using it for both bear, and deer.

To see what is so appealing about the 260Rem, all you have to do is read accounts of what the 6.5x55 will do, and realize the 260 is way earier to find brass for. (or make)
If it was only offered in more and diverse firearms.

Yaaaaawn  ........ There is absolutely no practical difference between it, (the 260) and a whole bunch of other middle of the road cartridges from the .243 up to the 270 or .308. If anything the 260 is a "johnny come lately" wannbe that just wants to be included with all those other cartidges filling a need that really didn't exist. It's another good, versatile deer cartidge based on a .308 case ..... big deal! :D

More like .... "It's not as popular because most people aren't morons and don't see much, if any, advantage over all the others". ;)

.

incorrect once again, newf ;)

try shooting 140's with a BC of .500 in your 243 or 257 Roberts. Good luck there. Or try shooting 95 grainers that have a BC higher than a bottle cap in your 7-08 or 308 for the off season vermin. Try stuffing your 270 Winchester into a short action. Ooohhh yeah  advantage 260

nice try though

yesssssssss :) :) :)

you're hauling around 1/4 lb heavier gun that is 2" longer, just so you can burn an extra 10-12 grains of powder and get inferior ballistics. thats ok, the deer wont know ;) and I wont tell them

it'll shoot a 100 grain bullet about 3300 fps, which is 300 behind the big Weatherby. Not bad considering it burns about 2/3 the powder the 257 Wby does, and has 5x as long of barrel life. :) the 300 fps handicap makes the 260 drop 4" more @ 400 yards, not a big deal, I bet you wiggle that much when shooting off a bench rest ;)

Who all makes a factory bolt gun in 260. I am looking to get a bean field deer gun. I do most of my deer hunting out of box blinds on our property.

I like the ballistics of these 6.5 bullets.
