260 Remington

What is special to one may not be to another. The 260 is a great round, I have had a couple. people can and do shoot bigger rifles without developong a flinch.I can shoot just as well with a 375 as I can with a 260 and so can alot of folks.Ammo expense can add up but this is not a cheap hobby, even the 260 ammo will add up when you practice as much as we all should.

Very true lol. The 257 weatherby mag doesnt rock and it is accurate but the cost of "partitions is scary and the barrel gets real hot very quick. It wont last long.
then what *is* special? torching out the throat on your rifle within 10 boxes of shells? :D having a wicked flinch? having to take out a bank loan to buy ammo?

something in this thread is special alright!

Bullet cost are going to continue to increase for sure. The 257 wby if allowed to cool between groups will get a couple thousand rounds out of it.

The 260 Rem (6.5mm) has amazing penetrating power on big game.
The Norwegians have been using them for decades, for a reason on all their big game needs.
Energy levels seem lower than North American standards for big game, but the penetrating power seems to defy all the ideas we here look for in a high energy 30 caliber rifle.:runaway:

hold on a second bubba, I loaded them 160s out of curiosity, which was satisfied when I found out I could push them to almost 3000 fps while keeping the accuracy less than 1" with 5 shots. I also shoot 250 grainers in the same gun @ 2300 fps. My comment above still stands, and isn't very relevant to me personally. :) but nice try

Sure, sure TB you keep telling yourself that. Nobody else believes it for a secon but you seem happy in your own special way.

I was curious how fast they'd go. Now that I know they fly pretty quick, AND shoot excellent..it has me wondering how they'd do on a big critter like an elk or moose.

Results :

Velocity - 2900 fps up to 2980 fps

Accuracy - 1.25" 5 shot @ 90y

Plugged the numbers into the ballistic program and it says if I'm +2.5" @ 100y, it's only gonna be down about 4 inches @ 300y, and 17" @ 400y. Not bad for a wannabe 358

Uh, huh yep... that 300 fps the 260 gives up must eat a hole in you. I noticed too that accuracy improoved some from the orginal post to this one. :dancingbanana::runaway:

only a fool would base accuracy on a single group shot with 5 cartridges loaded with 5 different powder charges during load development. :ninja: You dont get out much, do ya? ###XX should unchain you from his basement ballistics lab where you do all your experiments/internet stalking and let you get out into the fresh air a bit :D
