Any distinct advantages between the .270 vs .243? This will be my first rifle mainly used for coyote but want something capable of deer/moose/bear should the opportunity to go hunt those creatures present itself. My 15 1/2 yr old son will also be shooting this rifle. I've heard .243 has less kick but still enough killing power for most big game.

Opinions?

Thanks,

Dave

Here we go again.
.243 is at best a deer rifle. yah yah I know people haveshot gizzlies with a .22 short, yada, yada, yada.
I f you intend to hunt bear and moose step up to the .270

i wouldnt wanna hunt moose with the 243:eek: but for deer and coyote its the very best!! if your gonna encounter and game larger then a deer the 270 is the distinctive choice...hands down!! its one hell of a fine caliber!!

.270 hands down. No contest. Kick what kick? This isn't a .300 mag... and my son who was 11 at the time shot my dad's .300 mag quite well. Stick with 130 grainers in the .270 and he'll be just fine.

The .243 is great for game under 100 pounds, but for anything larger I want more bullet weight. Loaded with 150 gr bullets, the .270 is a good all around big game cartridge. Just choose the bullet style that is most suitable for the range you'll be shooting.
