270 or 30-06 Spfld

They both make holes in things, one makes a slightly smaller hole than the other.

The victim of the so called hole whether it be a piece of paper, game animal or Lund boat won't know the difference, although the boat may take a few seconds longer to sink with a .277" hole. :p

Whooooo! Take it back body! Why would anyone use such a well built boat to test the diameter difference between 30-06 and 270 bullet holes? What do you have against Lund boats?

On the other hand, Princecraft and Legends are just made for such scientific tests. :p

Hey, I figure why not test on the best built hulls, pocket change for most of us really! ;)

I think Rockert Surgery has succeeded in his mission of getting under peoples skin.

The short bolt action comment is a bit baffling. With a little practice, most folks can run a magnum length bolt gun all day long, never short stroke the action, without taking any more time to cycle the long bolt than it does one with a short bolt throw.

How about a 30-06 Springfield case necked down 31 thousandth of an inch to .277 dia?. Identical ballistics to a .270 win, and as pointless as a another 30-06 vs 270 thread.d:h:

Now I love my '06, but its interesting that many consider the range of bullet weights to be it's greatest advantage over the .270. Yet how many '06 shooters take advantage of this? I bet few use anything but 180s, and there's nothing than can be done with a .30/06 loaded with a 180 that can't be done with a .270 loaded with a 150. Although I do some shooting with cast bullets, I normally stick with 3 weights of jacketed bullets. I seldom use bullets lighter than 125-130 gr, I shoot lots of 180s, and I always have a batch of 240 gr Woodleighs loaded for bear work. I suppose if I lived down south I would shoot 130s and 180s exclusively, just like I would choose 130s and 150s if a .270 was my go to gun.

I was in the same predicament few years ago when buying my first actual longer range hunting rifle. I ended up choosing the 30-06 over the .270 and never looked back, a great decision! If i had a chance to go back and change it, I most definitely would not, 30-06 in my eyes is a greater round.
