I don't know about you but hunting and shooting is a full time endeavor for me Keepa... sorry about your luck
(Yes you are right ...you don't know about me and hunting , and don't worry about my luck ...I'm retired and can hunt most days . I haven't shot any thing yet but am picky ...haven't seen anything big enuff too shoot .)

We seem to have a plethora of writers nowadays who just regurgitate and plagarize and say nothing new or intelligent... just like many on this site... who only contribute insignificant and confrontational drivel... or post contradictory and quarrelsome twaddle in the misguided hope that it will mend their insignificant existence :|
Don't be so hard on yourself, I'm sure you're not that bad ...after all you say you are a hunter .

We've made it to page 6...not bad, considereing that these 2 cartridges are almost identical, I doubt the difference could actually be measured in a hunting situation...

Yes indeed Clarke, that is why I voted for the "no practical difference" choice.

But sometimes that GREY fly #### can confuse a fellow for hours, because it looks and tastes just like older ground pepper that has sat too long in a shaker.

Keepa twaddles:
Don't be so hard on yourself, I'm know you are a successful hunter ... and a very good looking fellow .
There you go putting words in my mouth again.
Two can play at this game... isn't it about now where you tell us how many Moose and Deer you have killed Keepa  :p

Back on topic now...
As an aside to this debate I have found further proof of the .270's superiority over the .280
Remington is going to offer a 6.8X47 RemSPC ...which is basically a user friendly .270 8)

This excerpt is from an article in Rifle shooter by Gary Paul Johnston....

The 6.8x43mm SPC was conceived by a U.S. Special Operations soldier in a quest to improve the terminal ballistics of the M4 Carbine. The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and others assisted the Spec Ops team heading the project. Although the main objective was increased lethality, the new cartridge would go far beyond that in terms of accuracy and performance.

After selecting the .30 Remington as the parent case--a decision that required only slight modification to the M16's bolt face--the case was shortened, given a new shoulder and blown out to maximum capacity for a new high-performance propellant. After testing a variety of bullets in 5.56mm, 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm and 7.62mm, a bullet of 6.8mm was selected. This .270-caliber, 115-grain projectile has a ballistic coefficient of .350, offering optimum lethality and range.
Remington began to develop the 6.8x43 back in 2002 and is officially introducing it this year as the 6.8mm Rem SPC. As this is written, the cartridge has not been released to the public, but I can tell you that it provides one MOA accuracy out to more than 600 meters. It has a flight path almost identical to that of the .308 Winchester, less chamber pressure than the .223 and fits into the M16 magazine envelope. Tests in 10 percent ballistic gelatin show incapacitation as good or better than the .308.

As you can see the Special Operations (Marksmanship Unit) of the US armed forces chose the .270 over the .280 :!: 8)

AWww REDD another load of BILARNY :!: :!:
Special ops have no choice as to caliber they use  their mostly south of Highway 7 so have to stay under the .280 legal limit

Ha... REDD I'll give you the last word
I do that to my wife too, otherwise It'd never end
I just can't make her see the light either

well I think we are going to do this in the spring when Rob is out for turkeys, crappies and walleye..........and did I hear somebody say groundhogs too?

That Tangle Ridge stuff is bilge-water, reminds me of Scotch. And no self-respecting CANADIAN should drink that Scotch Whisky crap! Now, solitary eccentrics who heat their house with peat and like to be alone with the sheep, we can understand how they could be driven to drink something so foul. But when a person has the choice of REAL whiskey made with RYE, then there is no choice at all. (Hey Bigredd, that one got more mail last time than even the .270 vs .30-06 debate! )

"Bones" ------You hit it on the head

The only difference between .270 & .280 is the fact that the "Old" sports writers made a big deal about nothing ONLY to ensure that the rest of us debated the diff. .270 Vs .280 for the next 20 years 8)

AND, still, nobody can convince the other side that they are better than------------------------.270/.280---------------- :? 8)
