Holy #### I just realized the .270 took the lead in the poll for the first time in about a month..... let the banners fly... let the crowds cheer... Hey I am easily excited allright
Maybe now Senior will admit his choice is the wrong choice...
I am just kidding Senior... this one has been a dead-heat from the get-go 8)

The .280 is slightly more powerful then the .270 Winchester, but it would be a reach to suggest that the .280 is better then the .270 Winchester. It might be more versatile due to the wider veriety of factory bullets that are available for it

Just for ####s and giggles

Both these cartridges are based on the 30-06 case. Boy where would we be without the much maligned 30-06

Well it was inevitable :( there's more 270s out there than 280s, but it does show the enthusiasim 280 owner have :)

Ain't that the truth

I voted .270 Win. Propbaly the impact of Jack O'Connor's writings on an impressionable young shooter.

But what is really interesting is the closeness of the vote. There really is nothing between them and at the end of the day it boils down to personal preference.

Another interesting point though is that the .280 Rem must shoot a heavier bullet to equal, far less surpass, the ballistics of the .270 Win. The proper comparison is BC and SD not weight when comparing cartridges with differing bore size. Even when the diffrence is only 0.007". Or else agruments are based on rubbery figures or reasoning.

AAhh swarmed by a unimformed mob

A few of us put up a good fight thou :)

It sure goes to show the following an obsolete cartridge can have :!:

Musta been a good one

I would go with the 270 just for nostalgia but the 2 are so close terminally (forget the ballistics you cant tell when you pull the trigger, if you say you can tell the difference your lying) that i think you would have better debate between what is better between a bolt action rifle and a bolt action rifle...lmao.

I've owned both and the .270 gets my vote.Sure you can get more bullet weights in the 7mm caliber but do you really think a big whitetail can notice the difference between the .277 150 gr.and the ,284 160 gr.

NO but a moose might notice the diff between a 270 150 & a 280 175!
Those are the heaviest common bullet available for each caliber!

I think that the type of bullet is more important than the weight with both these calibers... and Nosler has been making a 160 grain partition for a long time in .277 cal.

Thought I had the last word in there

"I think that the type of bullet is more important than the weight with both these calibers... and Nosler has been making a 160 grain partition for a long time in .277 cal. "

True, but I don't know a single person that uses a 160 part in a 270 :!:

You don't hang out with any .270 users though senior... they give you a rash...
Actually I know one guy that uses them... they are supposedly deadly on Moose... but then again so are the .175 Partitions from the .280... if thats all you got
I think I would use accubonds as a first choice for either the .280 or the .270 in the 160 and 140 grain bullet weights respectively 8)

Not Again.     DAN>>>
And I do have 160& 180 gr. bullets for my 270 but have never found a need to load them. I use 140X bullets. DAN>>>
