270 vs 30-06

Of course not. They'd almost certanly be wearing protective muffs from firing the guns.

Don't the muffs come with the little hat, whistle and plastic sherrif's badge when you buy a .270?

Haven't been following the thread, but here's my .02:
You don't need a .30-06 for hunting unless you start hunting grizzly or animals bigger than moose, a .270 will do the job just fine as long as you put the bullet where it's supposed to go.

OH MY GOD

That will open up a whole new and big can of worms!!

Which would be better for nightcrawler defence the 30-06 or the 270
hmmmmm.

Well, somebody had to do it....

So - you are reccomending a "crow gun" for animals up to moose, and a whitetail gun for grizzly bears? Yikes.

Let me guess - a .22LR is adequate for squirrel as well?

What animals are there in Canada that are bigger then moose? Last time I checked there was no open season for Wooly Mammoth. Unless you BC guys are keeping that a secret

Haha crow gun? A .270 isn't weak, you don't need a huge rifle for everyday hunting. Now I believe that you CAN hunt Grizzly with a .30-06, once again if you put the bullet where it needs to be it will do it's job. WOULD I hunt grizzly with a .30-06? Nope :p :D.

Largest land animal we have in Canada is the bison.

BC requires a minimum of 175gr bullet and 1500ft/lbs or some such nonsense... :D

I use a custom Rem 710 in 32-40Win with a laser sight and bayonet. Those 202 Gr bullets will stop a charging crawler from 20 feet. Although I have had to finish one off with the bayonet, it was my fault cause I missed one of the hearts.

It's true, there's no bigger animal in Canada (that the majority of people hunt) than moose; not many people hunt Bison, and according to the rule you listed a .30-06 will more than do the job.

Mudpuppy: Wait...custom Remington 710? There's something about that that just doesn't sound right...

Hell I can see bison from where I'm sitting. I definitely want more than a girly 30.06 if I decide to take one of them down. I know I'll need a hell of a lot more firepower to hold off the rancher who owns them!  :p
