270 Winchester reloading

I have 8 270's
RL 19 is always my starting point
I used to only use Partions but in the last 10 years have gone to TSX and TTSX
30 thousands off lands is a great testing point

Best load I have seen in 270 win Rem 700 22" barrel
using Nosler 140 gr Balistic tips and Nosler 140r Accubonds powder RL 17 max load = 3000+ fps at 100y 3 shots small clover leaf touching
at 300 y just a hair over 2 "

After multiple test loads for my sons .270, the best combo turned out to be, 58.0 grains of Reloader 22, pushing a 130 grain Accutip boattail. Ran an average of 2833 FPS and deadly accurate. Just found the 130 grains to be more accurate than any of my 150s in this gun. All loads are subjective as every gun will give different results. So, lots of range time testing is needed, and that's not a bad thing at all ! IMHO

I have also found RL19 to be great for my .270 when pushing heavier bullets. Just got a few hundred 130gr TTSX so I am gonna have to start trying out a few other powders as well. What do you use with your TTSX bullets?

Hey my new friend. Never take advice from the Internet or a call from a foreign country to take control of your computer to scan it.

However, I will share that 57.5 gr of RL 19, works well for me. Work your way up carefully in case you have a tight barrel or chamber. 30 thou off lands. I take no liability for my recipe. Good luck and share your results.

I got a little better velocity from R22 but not the accuracy. If I need more, I just pick up my 270 WSM or my 7 Rem Mag. If anyone's goal is to hot rod a cartridge, just buy the next size up and make it shoot well.

50 FPS less and a good hit is better than wounding ......

Haha thanks, I actually shot some of the 130gr TTSX over IMR 7977 this weekend and at 58gr and 58.5gr I had sub .5moa (only 3 shots cause thats all I loaded per step). Was getting 2811fps for 58gr with a SD of 9.3 and ES of 17 and 2878fps at 58.5gr with SD of 15 and ES of 29 (I think it could be lower because I had fresh clean case necks and that always seems to increase my spread). The jump in velocity from 58gr to 58.5gr is a bit too high though and with the difference in velocity from 57.5gr to 58gr being only 4fps I think I will try some loaded between those two.

I am getting low on RL 19 so I am going to save that for my 165gr Matrix loads until I can pick some more up

For my 270 Sako A7 and 150 NP , 54.5 gr of H4831sc is my woods load. Fed 210 primers. 0.65 in group.
If you have a load which is good but not excellent you could try a different primer.
The Nosler published data is extremely reliable.

You will get a bit more speed with the slower powders but my 150 gr loads have been the most accurate with H4350.

exactly what this guy said. Between 3 guns, we found 1 liked 48.5 of H4350 and the other 2 like 49.0 of H4350. We chrono'd everything and were all just barely under 2600fps (which was unexpected) but all 3 guns could group single ragged holes at 100 yards and the rounds killed moose.

150gr partition, 51.5gr imr4350.

I am developing a similar load. I will try your advice about trying a different primer. Thank you for the tip.

Hey guys, so I finally got out to shoot another set of reloads. This time I had NS and loaded 53.5 and 54.0gr in a friend's RCBS NS die. The 53.5gr load was still more accurate, but I noticed that the group sizes opened up quite a bit with NS. I also shot the 53.5gr with a 5 shot group at 200m and it printed quite low, but it was about a 2" group for the 3 shots that hit the paper. I think the last 2 shots are on the black target board which on my measurements, opens the group up to 3.5-4". Right now, I'm going to settle with the 53.5gr loading, however, I did buy a Lee collet die which apparently is better than the RCBS. I'd like to try a FL vs NS accuracy test now in 53.5gr. Have you guys ever experienced worse accuracy with NS? I've read it may be due to bore concentricity and a NS cartridge doesn't allow the bullet to self-center like with a FL sized cartridge.

2800 fps with 150 grain NP, 54.5 grain H4831sc and 0.65 in group in a 22 barrel.
