270 wsm vs 30-06

the 30-06 is really for old people that don't know any better and can't change ..get the 270 wsm ...flatter , better bc, shorter action and new..

I disagree about a better B.C., I dont think the .270 has anything on .30 cal, with the 200 grain bullets topping out over .550 in .308 calibres
Also, check to make sure you buy a gun that really does have a action to suit its calibre. My first wsm was a browning a-bolt that did not have a short action, just shot .300 wsm. Also, you couldnt put the bullet on the lands without making it to long for the magazine..

I am sold that the wsm cartriges burn powder more effeciently and consistantly. That makes for a more inherently accurate cartridge, not bullet.

Also, by my calculations a 150 grain sierra game king needs a 1 in 9 twist for the bullet to be stabilized.

The practical differences between the cartridges are not going to be huge, nor would they be if you included 308 win and 300 win mag for that matter. Does that mean everyone shoots 308 just because it will do the job just fine? No. Variety is the spice of life, and firearm/ammo manufacturers aren't the only ones to rejoice over new offerings in that department. People are allowed to be passionate about their cartridge of choice, otherwise if you want to speak strictly from a practicality standpoint, we could all get away with having stayed with 303 brits. I wonder if the 303 crowd had similar words about the 30-06 when it came out. Resisting change is a part of life, I suppose.

Muledeer is right about ballistics, there are infinitely more bullet choices for .308 caliber than .277, although the matrix 165 grains come in at around .650 measured BC, and in my x-bolt mag they aren't on the lands, but I can get them close enough for accuracy. From what I've seen the cartridge seems fairly lenient in jump distance (or at least this bullet is) I'll be able to comment more over the winter.

I've got a browning x-bolt medallion chambered to 30.06 and love it. Ive tried out the Tikka T3 in the .270 WSM.. Great gun.

The .270 WSM ( correct me if i'm wrong ) is one of the most flat shooting bullets out there. That being said, your gonna find very minimal differences between 2. Try a few out and make your choice. Don't let the chamber size run your decision.

find any good balistics calculator , and compare the two i can almost bet the 270 wsm is gona beat the 06 hard
Okay, I'm curious. Post the ballistics here at lets see. The most important factor for me is the terminal ballistics/bullet performance. It's the bullet that kills the game, not marketing hype.

When comparing bullets of different calibres, you should always compare bullets of similar sectional density, rather than similar weight. The 180 gr. 30 cal bullet has an S.D. of .271, which is similar to the 150gr. .277" bullet at .279. I used Nosler partitions so as to compare apples to apples. The .30-06 data is from my own handloads, the .270 WSM is the max load listed in the Nosler manual.

.30-06 180 Partition, S.D .271 B.C. .474 .270 WSM, 150 Partition, S.D. .279, B.C. .465

Having owned both, I'd go with the 3006. Components are cheaper, loaded shells are cheaper and far, FAR more available, and you have a wider range of bullets to choose from. About the only plus the WSM has is its a short action. That doesnt make up for the other factors.

Saying that, I hunt with my 308 far more then I ever hunted with 3006 or 270WSM.

The other good thing about readily available cartridges is that ammo can fall into your lap for a steal of a deal at times. That wont happen with the WSM (I had mine for 5 years and the cheapest I ever paid for a new box of factory shells was $22ish, compare that to 3006 in the same time frame at $10).

blasted, in your rifle calibres, how many different types of projectiles do you load for it?

if you were lookin at either of these calibres, why not a 7rem mag an do what both the others do! flatten schiet

cheers
