.270win what powder next?

Good Morning,
I've reloaded for my .270win for 22 years and have always only used IMR4350. I worked up the most accurate recipe for my rifle and have been happily shooting that since. I've dabbled here and there but raising 3 kids didn't leave me with much spare time. This year two of my kids are ready to step up to the big leagues and shoot large rifle. I'm currently working up a load for 110 gr hornady hollow points and it occured to me I should start trying a different powder. I'll be passing this rifle to them soon and for a couple seasons they will probably shoot a smaller weight bullet then the 150gr I've always used.
So, what I'm getting at is, what powder would you .270 win reloaders recommend I try for the lighter weight bullets in the .270win? I've not had great success with 130 gr and IMR4350 so I thought i would try something new to me. Any intel out there would be appreciated. Happy Holidays Folks!
 
I have the best results with 130 grain and Varget. I have dropped and got rid of all of the 150 grains as the 130 seems to the the most accurate time and time again. I have tried 100 grain, but have not had good luck they seem to small.
 
Another vote for H4831sc and RL22 for the 130 grain. 58-60 grains for H4831 and 58 grain for Rl22. H4831sc is more temperature stable. If you want magnun-like speeds, try Rl26.
 
so far I've had trouble finding as good a grouping with 130 as my 150 gr. Hence the question what powder to try next. Thanks for the input, cheers!

Unless your rifle is an odd duck 56-57gr of IMR 4831 /130gr bullet will kill game till the cows come home.All I've ever used on everything from antelope to moose and everything in between.
 
Used IMR4350 with Sierra 140 Gr Ballistic tips outta my Rem.700 Mountain rifle contour back in the day.
3 Shots covered by a quarter at 100 with little to no cool down between shots.
Why change ?
Why not buy another rifle and develop something as successful as the 270 ?
Besides a Canadian Gun Store will thank you for buying a new to you rifle ;)

h4831 is the starting point, it's a slower powder than your 4350. Smaller projectile should use a faster powder.

If it would be me, I would look in reloading manuals first. Check a burn chart for something....available....in the manual....slightly faster than imr 4350. If you need to experiment .......thats a good.thing.

Truth here......if I remember Ken waters pet loads is 60 or 61 behind 130. Start 2 gr low and move up.

Actually iirc pet.loads is h4831. Doubt the original 20 mm bofors H4831 actually exists anymore, modern powder would differ as would imr.

Pet load is 60 grains with H4831 NOT IMR 4831. If one needs slower speeds for the woods, 58 grain of H4831sc is a perfect, low recoiling load. One great advantage with H4831sc is that groups size does not change significantly when the loads go up. I have seen it in the 270 win and the 6.5x55.
 
I had loaded up some 110 grain Noslers a while back for a 7600 pump using IMR 4350 and she worked pretty well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

A friend used W760 for a similar load in a similar gun with good results as well - but I recall he said usually magnum primers are recommended for use with ball powder, especially in lower temps.
