just kinda started watching for a nice lil over under, or a side by side gun in 28. who makes a good one and has anyone got any info on any?

The "B" guns, Beretta and Browning both make lovely 28 ga O/Us. I've had the chance to shoot a Browning 525 sporting in 28 - very nice indeed. I do however prefer the Beretta and it is available on their baby frame, which is scaled for 28 and 410 shells. It is a very light and lively gun to say the least!

28 gauge is wonderful fun. I applaud you for your good taste. More info is required, however. What do you want to use it for, and what price range are you looking at?

Sharptail

I couldn't find a double 28 so I ended up with a new 870 Wingmaster. (It is good with no off centre chokes or other quality control issues) I just love it. The 28 hits way harder than you think it would. NEVER compare the .410 to the 28 for upland hunting. I hope you find a nice one.

cheers Darryl

Personally, I found the Beretta 28ga 686 SP or White Onyx to be the best value in it's price range. For some reason, I find all Browning O/Us fat and cumbersome (except the Cynergy)......no offence to Browning fans :)

Under $1K CZ or a Baikal/Spartan........

Shoot, I can't remember which store it was but one of the bigger canadian stores that sells firearms with a website accessable from firearmscanada.com has grade I browning model 12s for sale in 28G for $700. Superior to any recent 870 IMHO.

LeBaron has some on special sale......

In the $2,000-$3,000 range I like the Beretta 687 with 30" barrels for clays. I've also shot the Brownings and Guerinis and they are also decent guns but I don't like them as much as the Beretta. For a hunting gun in 28 gauge the Ruger Red Label is worth looking at.

In a sxs at a reasonable price the CZ is the best one IMO.

The 28 is my favourite gauge. Hard on targets, easy on the shoulder. The only drawback is the cost and sometimes the availability of shells. It is definitely a gauge worth reloading.

Beater:

in my opinion, for the money the CZ sxs are the better deal going. they are a bit stiff compared to the Berettas (my personal favorite) , but provide fine value in a good servicable double that you dont have to baby when hunting.

The actions of the o/u (esp the Brownings ) are too deep and chunky for a load like 28 ga. There is that sense of tradition with a fine double sxs, but always make sure the gun points where you want when you snap it up. I used to poo poo that, but after using many doubles, there are some that just come perfect for your body and others that will shoot under / over / sideways and you are always trying to compensate for the gun. Unless you want to re-structure a stock, try before buying, and find the one that feels right for you. Sometimes, a simple butt pad lengthening make sit perfect tho. i'll keep my eyes open.

Wholesale Sports ... 28 ga 28" CZ Bobwhite SxS ... $ 1120.00

Lots of value for the money.

As far as I'm aware, CZ offers the Bobwhite in 26 inch bbl config only.

Got mine at Epps for $999+tax a while back. Very nice although at first seemed only slightly more heftier than a walking stick (been accustomed to 12 and 20 only) :)

Apology for the hijack.....

Is a 28ga 686 White Onyx built on a 20ga frame? Haven't had an opportunity to compare one simultaneously with a SP 686......Onyx appeared to me as better balanced.

End of hijack :)

I have a Beretta 686 silver pigeon in 28 bore I bought for my oldest son to shoot with. Its a dream on pigeons, clay and feathered!

after much soul searching, and testing/ talking, i bought 2. one a CZ bobwhite and a discontinued stoger line IGA. love em both. obviously the CZ is much more prityer, and much more expensive, but the IGA will be a good carry gun in the field. they both shoot excellet, and i am much impressed with them.
