28 nosler why

Don't understand the point of all these new fangled calibers. Wonder how the people of yesteryear managed to put meat on the table with the so called obsolete ones.

Look at the 7mm saum...I am getting 3215 fps out of a 30 inch kreiger with extreme accuracy. I can regularly group 5-6 inches at 1300 yards( good conditions of coarse) with my best being 2.75 inches. This is not even a hot load but the accuracy is phenomenal...I am about a grain under max....For those interested the load is 62 grains reloader 26, sorted and prepped remington brass turned to 3.5 thou neck clearance, hornady 162 eldm 10 thou off, br2 primers.....but this gun shoots just about anything. I anneal every third firing..I just picked up some ADG brass for this chambering for Gary at Big Horn Sales . This brass looks really nice. ....anxious to try it out....
Ian Robertson is just finishing up a Sendero for me fitted with a 27 inch Bartlein barrel chambered in this cartridge..

same idea as the vast selection of vehicles, atv's, snowmobiles etc. a car enthusiast would be able to do all his driving needs in a Civic but he has a Corvette, Mustang, old muscle car parked in the garage for "sunday afternoon rides".

I have a lot of these hot rod or niche or rare or specialized cartridges in my collection, but all of my actual hunting could likely be done with a 303 Brit.

If everyone on CGN only had an old 303, single shot 12ga and a cooey 22 would this really be GUNNUTZ?

Many people sell their rifles, when they discover that no matter what cartridge/rifle they use, it still requires skill from the shooter/loader to hit the target. One person has had his 28 Nosler at the local range for about a year, and he still can't get it to shoot to his satisfaction. He will likely have the barrel shot out, before he is happy with the rifle.

7mm Rem is my favorite too, personally I like traditional belted mags over the non-belted/short/super short/ultra mags, I don't see the appeal of the same velocity but "no belt" just to empty your wallet faster.
Weatherby does have a few solid cartridges in the lineup, 257 and 300 are excellent, and they have a good large bore magnum selection if you are heading to Africa lol.
The 270 and 7mm Bee's are kind of pointless for sure.
One guy in our crew is real hard for the 300 Win, and he is a lucky bastard that always tags out, but I don't think he's shot a moose or deer in his life that was over 50 yards away...a 30-30 would have done the same job lol.

That would be called "charma" and he and that rifle are blessed.
Best nawt tuh bust the chain.

I don't think he is "lucky" but rather a skilled hunter who knows how t get in close for a sure kill.

That .300 will kill just as effectively at 50 yards as it will at 500. I personally would prefer to be "over-gunned" rather than the alternative.

If you don’t mind me asking why did you get rid of it?

It was the least expensive 28N rifle I could find. I wanted to shoot it and see what the recoil was like, and how the cartridge performed with heavy bullets. It shot several 1" groups with a few loads at 300 yards, the new owner is well set with it

Ive shot the 28 nosler since it came out I currently have two of them, and shoot 175 eld-x from one and 195 grain bergers from the other. I am very happy with it and have no intentions of using a different caliber.

I view the 28 Nosler as a heavy VLD style bullet, potentially magazine friendly STW. Why Nosler hamstrung their own cartridge with a short mag box is beyond me; but our long range rifles aren’t factory anyway so little is lost.

Where I live, and in my circle of hunting friends, a guy is more apt to throw an STW or 28 in the truck than a 30-06. Powder is cheap; and a 195 EOL is a wind bucking , hard hitting force to be reckened with. ;)

the Nosler 48 rifle they build, aka the Weatherby Vanguard / Howa 1500, has a 3.34" mag box. Talk about hampering a modern cartridge

I believe Howa makes both the Vangaurd and Nosler M48 actions and the Howa action is based off the Sako L61r or so I've read!
