Yup, haven't seen any in a shop for a couple years now. - dan

It comes close to the 7RM and you can fit one more round in most rifles.
If someone wants to play with one, go for it. Perhaps the actual rifle fits you better, or is accurate. Maybe your 3x, 5x more $ than a more common chambering and need to justify with confirmation bias. All good reason to own one.
My 7bore is a 7x57. Certainly a lesser 7bore chambering. One I choose for personal reasons. Ballistic twin of 7-08. Excellent deer round, and family connections. For me that's enough reason to own one.
Years ago I limited myself to two reloader calibers maximum. Had to sell one to bring in another. Sold a lot of rifles I regret now. If your shooting a 7bore, want readily available factory ammo the choices are 7mag and 7-08. Months searching for ammo, or being able to find ammo or brass only in yhe largest centres doesn't appeal like it once did.
Shoot your 280ai, enjoy it. It's a boutique chambering, similar to many others. Not as powerful as 7mag, and passed now by newer cool guy 7bores. Prc, Rum, Nosler. I doubt I would ever get one, unless I came across a awesome deal on a fine rifle, which just happened to be chambered in it. That 3x or 5x the money semi custom for normal money from an estate or auction. For me, a reloader; it's just another set of dies, brass, projectiles......grown azz man Easter egg hunt
How many times in your life have you required one extra round in the magazine?
Don’t need it till you need it.
I’m assuming you just roll around with one round then?
280 AI - Does anyone else shoot this wildcat.
I haven't read all of this thread but did anyone point out the 280 AI is not a wildcat?
Here's hoping you don't ever need it. I'm hitting my mid-60s and have never needed that ONE EXTRA SHOT.
Nope, I fill them up. One rifle, I hunt with an empty chamber, so I'm down by one on that one.
Yeah, I did. On page 5 I thinkLOL280 AI - Does anyone else shoot this wildcat.

….. that being said though…. 270win……why bother with a 280ai?…..why bother with a 7 mag over a 270 even?
That's the trouble with the 270 and 30-06 as well. They've been doing a lot of things well for a long time.![]()
^^^Totally Agree^^^ Beside's the noted above cartridges, there are a few other "very old" cartridges which have done well........300 H&H for example.

The thing about the 300H&H is that it can be replaced with a 3006. I own both and would not miss the 300 if keeping the 06.
