280 ai

And a 22.5" bbl is a bit short to get the 280 AI to reach its potential. Some reloading manuals list their 280AI velocities with a 26" bbl, and the 7mmRM with a 24", Nosler being one, oddly enough.

I find large barrels unwieldy in a hunting scenario, so I'd be perfectly happy with a factory length Tikka barrel, or even a few inches less. But I wouldn't be trying to duplicate a 7mm rem mag...

One can save a lot of hassle by having a 270 win, load it with magnum powder (Rl26, Norma MRP, vit 560) and get around 3050 with a 150 bullet and 2950 with a 160 from a 22.4 in barrel, slightly more form a 24. It is as simple as that, no need to scratch the head unless one really wants to use a 175 grains bullet.

You are Correct Sir BUT the 270 Winny is JUST not KOOL ! cou: RJ

$1300 for the stainless at Cabelas, can't imagine they're the best price in town either.

So $350 for a rechamber, plus a long action magazine and bolt stop I'm assuming? Not crazy expensive, less than half the price of a prefit IBI barrel... but $1650 for a tikka with a factory barrel feels kinda pricey...

3 months ago i got a 30-06 left hand brand new for not $1050 with taxes. it was from a store and never fired but in left hand ...

You guys just don't get it. A little less speed for 8 grains less powder. 7mm is a big fat dud

Yeah and the 284 is a little slower for a little less powder....and the 7-08...and the 7 BR.........

There is no magic to the 280AI its just a brass tube of a certain size.

I find the 280ai is a great balance when you figure out velocity, powder capacity, brass life etc. I've had a few 7mm08 and there's certainly nothing wrong with them but the 280ai just checks more boxes for me.
I shot mine out to 934 yards last weekend. It really seems to excel with the 160-165 grain bullets which are nice and slippery and can still get decent velocity. My current load is the 165 gamechangers at 2925fps.

LOL how did your LR shoot turn out to be 934 yards ??? that's a ODD range ! What was your Target ? I have a FEW of the 165 Game changers to try in my 280AI and 7 PRC What load you using to push yours (280ai) out that Far ? RJ
