Zero reason to go 280ai in a tikka. Just buy one in 7 rem mag and enjoy more speed and cheaper ammo. They both only hold 3 in the magazine. You can’t seat bullets way out either and red line pressure to try and catch up. The fatter case will always win.
This company reminds me of the dingus on the EE slapping tikkas in bell and Carlson stocks then trying to flip them for 2k.
Wish more manufacturers would chamber this. Seems like an ideal western game cartridge. 160 moving at 3000 fps.
Seems like savage and kimber are the only “affordable” options, although they seem a tad overpriced.
Chuck what about at 3400 fps ? Would that be even Better ? lol RJ
To get to 3000 fps with a 160, you are going to need a 26" barrel and some serious compression on the powder, even With Ramshot Magnum. If that number is your goal you are better off choosing a 7mm with greater case capacity, rather than blowing primers and locking bolts.
Another case of anyone shooting, or anything get shot would never know the difference between the two.
Always interesting to see people choosing a specific caliber for what ever reasons and then deciding it needs to match the next cartridge up in the same caliber…. Or even to the next level caliber! Happens all the time! 30-06 to make it a 300 win mag, 280ai to a 7rem mag, 9.3x62 to match 375h&h etc etc! I vues that is human nature to try to convince ourself that what we have or want quand be made in something else?!?!
I have no magnum in my cabinet, but when I look at reloading data, I’m always drawn towards max load with the powder that shows fastest velocity…. Guilty!
LOL how did your LR shoot turn out to be 934 yards ??? that's a ODD range ! What was your Target ? I have a FEW of the 165 Game changers to try in my 280AI and 7 PRC What load you using to push yours (280ai) out that Far ? RJ
It is an odd range I guess lol. I kind of prefer that to round numbers for shooting. 59gr h4831sc. Peterson brass cci 200. Coal is 3.360" 2925fps
I've used a 7mmRM with deer and moose. I'd do a 280AI with a minimum 24" barrel - but would love it even more with a 26" barrel.
