280 ai

I'm not going to switch to AI because I have a 280 and it does the job for me, but still, could someone please explain to me why the 280 AI is better than the 280 Remington?

It gives you slightly higher case capacity once the case is fireformed. All else being equal, that will allow higher velocities. Which is the same argument in favour of the 7mm Rem Magnum, 7mm Wby Magnum, 7x61 S&H, 7mm STW, 28 Nosler/Prc and 7mm RUM. Bigger boiler, more steam. - dan

If reddog's is a greyboe, really liking the look of it. Well, liking the look of it whatever stock that is!

This is a funny thread. I have all 3. 280, 280ai and 7rem mag. Among other 7mm chamberings.. They are all excellent. Probably like the regular 280 best though. Even with crappy factory loads for those that dont reload, no animal will know the difference.

I’d like to try the 280Rem at some point, finding cases to reload for it seems to be a daunting task currently.

I see the 280Rem at its’ best (for me) in a light weight 22” bbl Deer rig. Although I probably wouldn’t hesitate to carry it for Moose and keep yardage to within reason and not request something the cartridge can't handle range wise.

I had a 7RM (A Bolt 1st Gen) and it was extremely accurate. I’m just not a fan of 26” bbls that are typical of this Caliber in the terrain I typically hunt.

Back to the 280 AI… As others have stated I’d circumvent the AI in favour of the 7RM knowing if I needed factory ammo in a pinch in a “out there” place, I’m more apt to find it on the shelf over the 280AI.

That's fine if you need or think you need that extra horsepower. I don't for the game I hunt at the ranges I hunt at.
