284 win

I have a 6.5 -284 on a HVA action and its really a PERFECT match ! Best lenght for those cartridges ! (6.5-284 Norma or 284 Win ) jmo RJ

I really want to try this cartridge (6.5x.284) and it's parent case as a stand alone at some point. There's a few Savages on the EE, but the lack of aftermarket stocks leaves me thinking a custom off a 700 action.

I just bought MY first SALVAGE action on here the other day thinking of using it for a build - NOTHING to be Proud of ! :p jmo RJ

Use a Rem or Tikka or a Win action ! ;)

I have a savage in 6.5-284, a Rem in 6mm-284, my goat gun on a Rem 600 in 284. Have had a 25-284 and 33-284 in the past. It is a very versatile case. - dan

If you were to build off a SA, and run say 140-150 projectiles I’m guessing 1:8.5 twist would be the most ideal route?

1-8 or 1-8.5 will work well with those bullet weights. I dont know whoch short action you had in mind. Older Winchester 70's and Tikkas only come in the one action length, which is advantageous for seating your bullets long. - dan

Gotta work with what I have, so Rem 700 SA

I had a 6.5-284 built on a Kimber Montana 84M (SA) I had the mag box opened up to 3” so loaded everything at 2.9” and it was fine, factory ammo was no problem as well.

You can also have the ejection port opened up if needed for extraction when cycling a loaded round

It does restrict u in OAL but not so you can’t work around it.

I’m having a 284 built on an XM length action with a 23” #1 contour Benchmark Barrel.
Should be a nice lightweight hunting rifle.

It shoots tiny groups with 140gr Partitons over N555. The March went on to stretch its legs and see what it could do at distance. It did not disappoint!

All gunsmithing was done by Henry Remple and turned out fantastic!
