Have to be at least 8m from untravelled portion of road before you can have your firearm loaded and shot. (At least in Ontario).

they told him that they where looking for ppl fireing from the car , and he did it all right , but the deer was 1" to big..
so i looked at the cell phone pic's there so bad you cannot make them out

If the shot towards the deer took place from the road side or even the ditch...he is in violation . Once you knock down a deer and you have taken possession of the body, you must have a licence for that deer in your possession. Not running to town to get one. Maybe you should pick up a book when you get your licence and read the regs. A road is described as a public road that anyone can drive on. If they were watching the road, they knew it was included in this description. The ditch is included in the term "road".

What I gathered from the original post was that the tag did fit the bill for the deer that was shot. Nothing about being fined for shooting from the road.

I am a hunter...not a road driver nor would I take game I did not have a license for. This is what is printed in the message...
and his plan was that if he gota buck his driver would go back into town and get his buck tag and then bring it back. well my dad guted it but they told him that would not work (but i thought you dont need to put on the tag till you put it into the truck)

He is very lucky they did not tag him for the other violations.

like i posted all you need to be is 3ft from the car , witch the car can be on a roaD (must be a road that you can hunt on) lot's of ppl walk up and down roads all the time when hunting . this road is a "fire road/loger road" trail

Man oh man, 5 inches??? 4 inches and under would be "Legal"...
I recall in New Brunswick, a buck had to have 3 or 4 inches (can't remember) or rack on at least one side... I imagine that there are MANY MANY MANY deer registered at Irving gas stations that DON'T have 3 inches of antler... IMHO, despite the "law", the fact it is a buck, tagged with a buck tag, is legal...
But then again, who am I... Just another minion...

he knew it was doe's or bucks under 4" , but this one looked to be under 4"
also we talked to rangers befor on this they told him befor if it is a little bit biger it would be ok..
also my dads cousin is the head ranger in hadashville , greg if i remeber right my dad is going to talk to him on this.
that is y i think they did not want him to take pic's of it
all i am saying is that 4 or 5" is real hard for you to see when all you have is a 4x scope at 125 yards and for him the $450 he can care less if he has to pay it , all he wants is his gun back

lol they had a robot moose up north this year by redlake. They caught so many indians shooting at it in the dark and from the vehicle. Only problem was the Officers had to catch them before they got back on the reservation and without getting killed in a high speed chase.

A 4x scope imho is only good for very short bush hunting or shooting at paper or gophers at a short distance like 50 yards. At 125 yards, the deer would still be a mighty small target as seen thru the scope.
Are you complaining becuase your dad broke the law and got caught?
Or do you think he is innocent? If you do take it to court and make a better case than you did here.
Does'nt sound like you old man used binos and he certainly did not properly identify his target so learn from his mistakes and be a better hunter.

If he goes to court, they will hold his gun until a verdict is in. If he pleads guilty, it may be a fine and loss of hunting privileges. Depends on the judge.
Aren't you supposed to buy your tags before you shoot the animal?
he did have a tag........
and if it was a real deer and he shot it and seen it was over 4" he would of got a buck tag for it . , or give it to some one that he was hunting with that had a buck tag but they where 5km's away in a tree stand ,
but for me i think this is a good thing they got him.. maybe now he will hunt the real way... like real ppl do , tree stand , walkin ,
this is the "buck we got friday" lol now that i look at the pic's it may be 4" , but we still put the buck tag on this one (hit the tip of the hart)
from the hunting regs in ontario atleast. the tag has to be put on the animal as soon as you get to it. not after you gut it or anything else. as soon as you get to it. if you get caught with the animal without a tag you face a hefty fine.
