Excellent!! would be great to see the Albertans out number the BC boys.

Hey,,,,,,,,, I'm a BC boy! Well transplanted against my will actually

May be you Alberta boys can finally show me how to use that rifle I have laying around here somewhere :p

So if i made the trip with my guns, m14 and enfield 303 would i be an outcast for only haveing 2 stock guns with me. I dont want to feel like a looser around everyones built up .50s and whatnot

As long as the rifle is safe and you have fun, I certainly am not going to care.

Just make sure that you take the time to set up the scope for a lot of elevation. You will need it with those cals.

come on out. I am sure you will get a chance to play with other toys.

I am most likely going to leave the bulk of the ridicule for the Albertans...

Jerry

PS with some of the rifles that will be coming, your Brit will be like a ray gun. I expect to see some Black powder cartridge rifles too.

I am sure you will get a chance to play with other toys.

I don't think its a keep up with the Jone's event. Your welcome to try any of mine that spike an interest. I think it's more of a social get together and shared learning experiance.:shotgun:

I am most likely going to leave the bulk of the ridicule for the Albertans....

Is that a dig....:p sure feels like a dig. Jerry Your turning Albertan!:p :D

I will have to help you work on that when I get up there!!;) :p :slap:

LRC, me - prod, prod, poke, poke - the Albertans. Not me.

By the way, those things are called HILLS!!!!!!

Last year, we had an orig Springfield Carbine with open sights pounding the target area at 750yds. There is nothing inaccurate about these old cartridges.

Jerry

well then in that case maybe I will have to get a few buddies together and go on a road trip. I cannot think of a better way to spend a weekend

Well, guys we are one month out, the weather is warming up and the snow is melting (took a long time this year).

Roughly 18 shooters have shown interest or confirmed they are coming. I will be capping this at 24 confirmed shooters so there is still room.

We now need to indicate who is bringing what:

- at least 10 sturdy tables with rests/bags, less if shooters are going prone. I have two tables. Best if everyone brings their own rests/shooting mats/tarps - more better

- spotting scopes for each shooting point (each shooter must shoot with a spotter - safety and seeing where that bullet hits)

- each person brings a chair or two. There is little to no cover so if someone has a pop up awning or two, that would be great. No outhouse so come prepared for 'being with nature'.

- we need to confirm how many shooters need a ride. Road is 4X4 access only.

- Gongs, clays and balloons other targets are welcomed so please let me know what you are bringing up. Just make sure that you will clean up after (clays will melt but everything else, that doesn't rot, has to be cleaned up).

- need at least two more FRS radios for range control. Everyone will need to take turns with range/road control. Expect to do one/two session each day.

- I am sure that everyone will bring their own food and drink up. Portable stoves/BBQ's are just fine. No alcohol or drugs. If you smoke, you will need an ashtray so we don't have butts on the ground.

This is a preliminary agenda:]

Meet at Summerland High School and rolling by 8:30am (please don't be late) Sat. April 14. Set up by 10am and start shooting. Last year it was 'range open' until everyone got tired and needed a break. If we get 24 shooters, I will likely limit to 15mins of open range time followed by a switch of shooters, then changing targets/range control crews. You will be shooting ALOT (weather permiting) so bring ammo, cleaning/loading supplies, spare barrels :)

Distances will start at about 500yds and go out to 850yds on the 'short' range. The longer range is 900yds to about 1200yds. Anyone wanting to practice 1km BR will get lots of time as there is a very convenient target at 1000m. The extra long range starts around 1300m and goes to 1600m (ask IVO, he's been there).

I will make up a map of the area so you will have distances to targets. We will clean up for the day by 4pm.

Don't worry if you can't sight in much past 100/200yds. Make up a drop chart and I can easily dial you in. Just make sure the rifle IS sighted in though with as much up elevation on your scope as you can get. The short range terrain makes it very easy to sight in by spotting impacts.

I haven't heard of much interest to go further so we will shoot both days at the same location. Most targets are local boulders and rocks. Impact areas are on the sides of hills and open/protected with very limited access (but why we still have spotters for each shooter). Biggest intruder is likely to be wild horses and deer - these we don't shoot. coyotes are definitely in the area and season is still open me thinks - these you can if you have a license.

If there is interest on Sunday, we can arrange some fun events. At this point, I am just leaving as open shooting. Nothing organized, you just go where ever your turrents take you.

For those that showed interest, I need a firm confirmation by April 6th with your list of gear. If you don't confirm but show up, you may not get to shoot much if we are over subscribed. Plus, I will not wait past 8:30 for late comers.

Sat evening dinner can be at a local pub or Euro semi fancy restaurant (still not that expensive). Let me know which you prefer and I will make reservations. The Rosedale Motel is stumble friendly from either location.

Sunday will start at 8:30 with the same routine. I will shut it down for clean up by 2:30. Wonder who will still have ammo. This is a good time to put your portable reloading gear together.

We are shooting on crown land so each shooter is responsible for where their bullet lands and for their garbage. I offer no liability or third party insurance nor am I responsible for shooters actions. Hearing and eye protection is a must as we will have some very big boomers with muzzle brakes.

I would appreciate volunteers to help me with range officer duties. Common range safety rules and etiquette will apply. Unsafe shooters will be asked to leave - no exceptions!

Jerry

Ok I can bring 2 more FRS radios, a couple of folding chairs and 3 4 x 6 folding tables if required. I will have a 4 x 4 extended cab truck so I could take 3 people and lots of equipment in back. Just want to watch and help if you need it. Need to know meet location or did I miss it somewhere?

John

Well Danger Deb and I have reservations at the Rosedale motel already, comming up with 1ton 4X4 extended cab so should have room for passangers up the mountain and gear in back. I managed to grab a few BIG plywood pipe covers from work to use for some long range targets 36" diameter and better, will try and snag a few more before the shoot, and a box of ear plugs. Will have spotting scope, and laser. I can grab a couple boxes of clays at wholesale sports in Edmonton on the way threw if needed. If there are any special requests for needed gear PM me and I will see what I can do.

Jerry I am interested in trying to stretch my .50's legs as far as I can so I will be there for distance if your set up for it. Been looking forward to this, and counting the days. Will probably need directions from the Rosedale to the Highschool for the morning assembly.

Awesome guys. Let's make it comfy out there.

LRC, forget those big targets. The only place we can set up quickly and easily is at the short range. The mid and long range are just going to be on boulders and rocks (a few inches to a few feet in size). Lots of these and they don't need to be reset (would take WAAAYYY too long).

The clays would be nice so a couple of boxes of these. If making swinging gongs, 12" and smaller is all that is necessary for the 700 to 800yds. Unless we get stuck with strong winds, you will be amazed at how small a target you can hit. I expect most to be hitting clays at 600 to 800yds before the end of the weekend.

Last year Lionhill hammered his first clay at 700+yds on his third shot with my 7 mystic. We shot a lot of clays....

As for directions from the Rosedale Motel to the High School, turn left from the parking lot (Rosedale Ave) and drive STRAIGHT for a few blocks until you see the Shell Station on your Right. High School is across the street.

See directions an Albertan can follow. NO Sireee Bob, there will be no poking of fun from those living over the hill.

I will see how I can get the layout for shooting further then 1600m without moving the whole crew. The 2.5km 'range' over shoots where we will be.

Now if everyone wants to shoot at extreme range, we can do that Sunday morning. You pretty much start shooting at 1000/1200m and move on out. Will loose quite a bit of time if we set up twice.

Or we can do the extreme range shooting on Sunday Afternoon if its just you and Deb????? Setting my gear up takes no time at all and we will have light. You can't shoot prone easily at the extreme range location. Lots of scrub and cactus.

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Bob and I will be there again(He picked up an origional mint M1A in .243 BTW). We both have shooting tables and chairs. I will have a spotting scope and a LRF with batteries this time. I'll probably bring the same target setup as last year with the stand and gongs. Same truck as last year so room for 3 more...I will need to bring more ammo this year if this will be a 2 dayer. I'm bringing both TRGs and my .300 Win Mag.

Ivo

Here's an update so far. We have enough radios but not enough shooting tables. Rough count is at 5 to 6 and we need 10 to 12. No biggie as I am sure some will shoot prone but just limits shooting time. We are also short on spotting scopes. More better!!!

If bringing a table, please make sure that it is stable and solid.

We have at least one pop up awning. More would be better if available. Weather so far has sucked so do your sun dance that week please.

Below is a list of shooters that have confirmed or are tentative. If you are tentative, confirm asap. We are essentially full so if you can't make it please let me know. If you are not on this list and have confirmed, my record keeping is missing you so please give me a PM or post here.

in no particular order:
Long Range Canuck and Danger Deb
Glock-a-maniac and friend
Guns5stuff
Obtunded
fozzy
lionel
troutseeker
blackcloud
ivo and friend
general ripper
frozen snake
5 locals

If you do want to come but are not signed up, please give me a shout. I am only capping numbers so that everyone has lots of time to shoot. If we have the tables, more better (at least to a point).

Jerry

PS bring cameras guys as the toys that are coming is SUPERB!!!!!!

I'll bring one spotting scope, maybe even two! Are you looking for shooting tables or general use tables, I might be able to help with standard folding leg tables....

The camera's are coming, video as well as digital!

Troutseeker

fozzy, that would be great.

troutseeker, looking for shooting tables. We don't have enough to let everyone shoot at once. Just reduces shooting time. I would like to have 10tables, some will likely shoot prone. Some general use tables is fine too but I usually just work out of the bed of the truck. don't want to take an hour to setup in the morning.

LRC, went out in a gale. There is a very nice hillside that I have never shot into that might just offer you the range you are looking for. Will range next time I am out (next week). This means we can all shoot from the same layout.

Unless there are a bunch of cancelations, we are FULL. Awesome guys!!! Looking forward to seeing all of you.

Do remember to pack your own food and drink up. There is a subway, A&W, McRonnies, and Timmies all in the area. The grocery stores open at 8am.

I haven't heard from anyone about Saturday dinner. What's your poison? Pub or Euro?

A bunch are planning on arriving on Friday afternoon, evening. anyone want to meet for a drink at the pub at 8?
