I am interested in 3 Gun. I have found tons of rules and pages and whatnot, but I am not sure if there are Canadian specific rules.

I am in Picton, ON. I am wondering where 3 Gun is practiced in my province...or my area? (Near Kingston).

Most of the US sites say that an AR platform is required for 3 Gun. Is this correct, or can you use an alternative centerfire rifle?

As well, the US sites say to get an 8 round (or 8+1) for the shotgun...However, I believe that is beyond the round limit for Canada. Can anyone provide direction?

Thanks for your help.

An AR is not required. It is the most competitive rifle, though.

8+1 is not more than the legal capacity for pump shotguns in Canada. Some 3.5" semis allow for 7+1+1 of 2 3/4" also.

Rules will depend on those of the 3 gun group you shoot with.

you have alot of youtube watching to do. Most 3 gun competitions in canada follow uspsa multigun rules, although 3 gun nation rules seem to be very popular in the US atm. Very expensive, very fun, very political in canada as some people think that beowulf mags are not allowed, and that all semi auto shotguns must follow 5 plus 1 rule which according to the rcmp firearms ident people is not true. Versamax tactical and field shotgun both use 3.5 inch receivers according to rcmp, even though the tactical has a 3 inch barrel marking you may still drop in a 3.5 inch 28 inch barrel as the receivers on both are identical. This gives you a 7 shot capacity of 2 and 3/4 in the tube , 1 ghost loaded, and 1 in the chamber. BTW remington 870 mag tubes fit into versamax receivers without any modifications and im awaiting rcmp ident to get back to me if i can use the 10 shot 870 extension, labeled for the 870 only. The other highly political issue is beowulf mags, some retailers sell a canadian version that allows 14 rounds of 223, some people have imported alexander arms mags that may hold 18 rounds of 223 ammo without being able to fit that 6th round of beowulf in. According to my lawyer , as long as you make absolutely sure that a 6th round cant be jamed in, you are ok. I would pin mine to 17 just in case. Have fun watch some vids and be ready to get dq'd once in a while.

This is a curious statement!

No shooter "gets" DQ'd! They bring it all on themselves. Shooters are informed that they DQ'd themselves by going outside the ruleset of the specific sport they are competing in. This has always been my interpretation anyways...your mileage may vary!

theres 2 types of competitive shooters, ones that have been dq'd and others that will be. Sooner or later mistakes happen when you push hard or forget something. Ive seen master class guys get a dq, ive got a dq by mistaking a pre set up table, so its not unusual. Last 3 gun i went to 3 guys got dq'd, experienced guys at that.

there is alot of dq videos by professionals on youtube to learn from.

" be ready to get dq'd once in a while."

This is your initial statement...
Are you saying now that if you are not competitive, you won't be DQ'd....or you will be DQ'd more because you are more competitive??? Start to make sense man! It it pretty unusual, at least in my experience, that if you follow the ruleset, you won't dq yourself...again, I lack in experience in these things, so appreciate your experience of how yourself and masterclass shooters get DQ'd on a regular basis by following basic rule sets....oh wait!

I gotta side with 7.62

DQ's happen, but it's not a regular thing. 'Been to matches where there are upwards of 250 shooters... Which translates into thousands of rounds fired and maybe there are 3-4 DQ's...

Not exactly statstically significant.

because it happens often in 3 gun, and to keep going and not let anything stop him from enjoying 3 gun. Btw , are you off your meds 7.62 ?

kid shoots a slug in the air by mistake

world class shooters dq all the time

Wow. So you pull a couple vids off the 'net and say "all the time"? How about the thousands of videos out there of people NOT dqing themselves? Get some stats instead of jumping to conclusions. If you operate within the ruleset you will not get a DQ.

We must not be "pushing hard enough" or "masterclass" enough up here in the sticks. I can't remember the last time someone was DQ'd.

there are hundreds of videos of dqs, they happen all the time. Just keep on 3 gunning, dont let it bring you down.

the ULTIMATE DQ, Australia ipsc championships

jessica hook talks about her first dq, ps do not cry in the port o potty lol

Its come to my attention that when a certain group of people don not like a statement presented, either because of ignorance or a blind 1 sided way to look at things, a pack mentality seems to take place. The videos posted are not to support my argument but to better inform the original thread starter on the effects of not knowing the rules, and the learning curve implicated. User 7.62 mm took offense to my statement, turned it into a personal attack upon himself when the statement did not have that intent. User 7.62mm became irate, posting several posts indicating his disagreement, posting multiple times instead of editing his original post and adding more information. This caused me to believe that he may have anger issues, thus my question regarding his meds. I would have posted all the videos on 1 post but this forum only allows me 2 videos per post.

I don't think anyone is denying that DQs happen, vdawg, but it doesn't seem to be as prevalent in their experience as it seems to be in yours.

Here's the thing with DQ's.... They can vary.
That first video... I don't know where it took place, but in many places that's a match DQ. In some other places I've shot it wouldn't be.
In my opinion stage DQ's are BS. You're either DQ'd or you're not.
It all depends on the match rules. Pay attention to the briefing.

exactly, im just pointing out to the original thread starter that there are many rules, and as a new 3 gun shooter to not get discouraged by a dq. I did not have any intent on telling anyone on here that because they havent been dq'd that they were not pushing themselves.
